Cell Phone comparisons - Reviewing the Reviews

Cell Phone Comparisons - Reviewing the Reviews

Comparisons of cell phones are an interesting topic these days, with all the new styles and models available. Everyone's giving reviews and ratings, based on what they feel are the top brand names, by comparison. And the brand names are an integral part of that equation. Cell phone manufacturers are in hot competition, each one trying to get the jump on the other with the best unique new models and all their technologically-advanced features.

So we're going to take a look at what many reviewers believe are the top three cellular phone manufacturers, along with their latest cell phone models. Those top three manufacturers are, in no particular order, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung. They each have a great line of cell phone models, with a wide array of handy and fun features. Since Motorola is the granddaddy of two-way communications, we'll look at them first.

Motorola has almost always been "first"

When it comes to mobile communications, Motorola has been on the leading edge, ever since its inception as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928. You can find more information about that in "cell-phones-n-plans". Ever since it introduced the heavy five-pound Handie-Talkie, Motorola has worked hard to introduce to the public a wide range of two-way radio systems. In 1983, they were the first to deliver a workable communication model to the cellular phone industry, the DynaTAC cell phone.

Throughout their history, Motorola has dedicated its research and development to creating ways to communicate that are simple and effective. And that becomes apparent when you revie w the range of cellular phones they have on the market today, including the latest in new camera phone technology. Their objective is to produce low cost cell phones to meet every need, in every market. And they've done a very good job of it.

We'll mention a few of Motorola's cell phone models here, and then we'll take you to the introduction of their newest technological wonder, the A630. Wait until you get a load of this model!

First of all, Motorola has come a long way since the DynaTAC. That was a heavy phone with very few features and options. Now, they have some wonderful models, with all kinds of cool and useful features. For example, there's the basic V60, available from AT&T Wireless, which weighs just under 4 ounces. It has text messaging capabilities, with 32 preset ringers available, voice-activated dialing and caller ID. You can also attach a headset to it and listen to FM radio. Now that's cool!

Then there's the more advanced V600, available from AT&T Wireless or Cingular, weighing in at under 4½ pounds. This model has good battery life, with about 210 minutes of talk time. You can send text messages on it, and it has MIDI and MP3 ring tones. It's also capable of Bluetooth wireless technology. And it's a camera, too, capable of taking great photos in seconds and sending them to your family and friends, using the MMS (MultiMedia Messaging) feature. It also has GSM global roaming capabilities. What a phone!

And if you think that's great, wait until you see Motorola's newest model, to be released to the public late this summer (2004). This is the A630 model, and it's touted by Motorola as the "must-have" cell phone for "today's text-savvy trendsetting consumer". The handset is comfortably small, but flips open to reveal a surprising QWERTY keyboard (the same configuration you have on your computer keyboard), that allows you to easily use the advanced email and text messaging features.

And, of course, the A630 has the latest in camera phone technology, featuring a VGA camera with 4x zoom, MMS for sending and editing your photos, and a sharp color screen to view them. And for those business users, it has a high quality speakerphone for easy communication when you're on the move. It also has full email capabilities, supporting POP3, SMTP and Imap4 technology. The only thing this amazing cellular camera phone doesn't do is walk and talk - at least, not until you tell it to! (Not really, but it comes close!)

Nokia cell phones are very popular

Nokia is another communications company with a number of firsts. For example, in 1981, they had a hand in NMT, the world's first international cellular mobile phone network, by supplying the network's first car phones. And they followed that up in 1987 with the world's first NMT portable phone, the Nokia Cityman.

Nokia has always been on the leading edge when it comes to cellular phones. They've recently combined their strengths with STMicroelectronics to develop a new cellular camera phone standard. And since 64% of their business comes from cell phone sales, they'll do well with this technology. And you can see it in their Nokia 6600 model.

This great camera phone comes with 2x zoom, streaming video and PDA capabilities, so it can be functional and fun, too. The 6600 not only has a camera, it also has a video recorder. And you can send your recorded images, along with text and voice clips, to a compatible phone or PC. Viewing your images is great, too, on the large 65, 536-color display, with 640 x 480 resolutions. And with night mode and a self-timer, who needs a digital camera when you have a good one right there in your cell phone.

And you think that's the whole package? Not yet! This feature-packed Nokia camera phone also has voice dialing and command capabilities, as well as a handsfree speakerphone. And it can record and send 90-second audio memos. You can access your email from it, as it supports SMTP, POP3 and Imap4. It almost replaces your computer, your PDA, and your digital camera. And it all fits in the palm of your hand!

Samsung enters the digital market

Samsung is the latest competitor to enter the digital race. As the new Millennium entered, so did Samsung, with a strong corporate focus on becoming a leader in digital technology. And their contribution to the current cellphone rage is what they describe as "Mobile Intelligent Terminals (MITs) - the power of a laptop in a phone". And that's a pretty good description of the direction cellular phones are taking these days.

MITs are touted to the business community as the tool for the road. They have high-speed wireless capabilities, including emailing and editing of office documents. And they can playback audio and video clips. There are three basic models of this versatile cell phone - the SPH-i700, the SGH-D700, and the SPH-i500. Each phone is specifically designed to be compatible with certain handheld technology, depending on what the user prefers.

And the new Samsung phones are not only cell phones, digital cameras and PDAs, but they're also great entertainment centers. For example, the SGH-P705 is actually a TV that fits in your shirt pocket. You'll never miss another goal, no matter where you are!

Today's cellular phones are beyond compare

It's quite obvious that the cell phone industry is putting more and more into smaller and smaller packages. And the amazing thing is that they're inexpensive, which is always a refreshing change these days. Cellular phones have come a long way indeed!

So if you want to make a wise decision when you're buying one of these ultra-modern cell phones, you may want to begin by learning how a cellular phone works. Then, when you're well-versed in this amazing and fast-paced world of digital technology, you'll be able to go online and choose your next exciting cell phone/camera/PDA/entertainment center. Good luck!
