Use Self-Hypnosis to Cure Insomnia

Why does insomnia happen? How can I cure insomnia? The answer is not always clear, sometimes it is caused by stress and other times there might be no apparent reason. There are ways you can improve both the quality and length of your sleep and break free of your patterns of poor sleep habits. Many cases of insomnia can be traced to stress. It can be very hard to shut down your mind in today's busy world. The old fashion method to cure insomnia was counting sheep. This is one way to get your mind into a hypnotic state and is really a form of meditation but you can also use a similar methods of self hypnosis.

Guiding your mind to the right place is very easy to do and requires little effort. Once you get into bed picture yourself at the top of a stairway with 10 stairs. Imagine going down the stairs and tell your mind that your getting more and more relaxed with each step. When you get to the bottom imagine a door and you open the door to find the room where you use to sleep soundly. It might be the room you slept in as a child and you enter the room and lay down on the bed. Imagine everything in this room and really picture it and see yourself on the bed sleeping. Sometimes you will fall asleep well in this state or you can picture yourself getting up and bringing all these comfortable feelings with you as you exit the room and go up the stairs. When you get to the top imagine you have taken all those feelings with you to the current bed you are in. These methods do take sometime to practise but they will help you focus your mind away from busy thoughts and into a place where you can sleep.

Before you try these methods you must make sure that you have created the proper environment to sleep. Your bedroom should be quiet and as dark as possible, this is often over looked. Temperature of the room must be just right so you can get in that nice cozy place that will lead to a great nights sleep. The worst thing you can do is make your bedroom a office, because your mind will soon relate your bedroom to the stress of work. It can also be a good idea to keep your alarm clock turned away from your bed as looking at it well trying to sleep can induce more anxiety and restlessness. Make your bedroom that quiet sanctuary that you go to escape the everyday world instead of a place where you bring the stress of everyday life.
