Tips For Selecting A Drum Music School
Drum music schools are not many. And finding which school is best for you will be challenging. With the following tips, you should be able to identify which will be the best answer to your requirements.
1. Ask about experience. How long has the drum school been in existence? What success or awards have the students achieved? What are the teaching methods used? You will notice by the way these questions are answered, whether a schools is proud of its accomplishments or not.
2. Look for trial lessons. Some drum music schools are very proud of their teaching methods and offer trial drum classes. In some cases they are free while others aren't.
3. Look for people that already play the drums and ask for their suggestion as to a good drum music school. For every school that you are considering, make the effort to interview current students and ask them how they will rate the school's effectiveness.
4. "Don't judge a book by it's cover" as the saying goes. In other words don't judge the quality of the class based on the price of the class. Don´t pay too much attention to the teacher's awards, or musical abilities. There are many great drummers who would not know where to start to teach.
5. Ask to sit in on a class. Watch other students and teachers perform.
Once you made a choice of what school you want to attend, make sure that the following are present in the first few lessons.
1. A good teacher should be able to properly critique your way of playing. The teacher needs to have you learn to see where you are wrong by yourself, and to do that he or she, has to criticize your technique. This helps you learn.
2. The teacher needs to motivate you to learn. He or she, needs to set goals for you and help you attain those goals. You should never feel like you are in a slump.
3. You should see an improvement. The drum rhythm should get easier and you should be able to attain a fuller and better sound.
You will begin to notice these differences right away. You have to feel extremely comfortable with a good drum teacher, and remember, just because someone has a lot of experience does not mean he is an excellent teacher.
A good drum teacher will make a big difference in your life and will teach you a great deal about music.
Your best bet in finding a perfect drum school is to follow the above tips and you just can't go wrong. When your questions are adequately answered by the schools, then you can make inquiries about their fees and schedules.
Remember, above all, attending a drum school needs to be fun, and exciting. Music is always supposed to be enjoyable, and should never be a chore. Find a good school and you will become a great drummer, find a bad school and you will lose interest in your music.
