Following In Jesus Steps
Every Christian is thrilled to have the opportunity to visit the Holy Land. Many people travel there yearly, but Christians particularly enjoy the trip. The very roots of Christianity lie within this sacred land. The children of Israel, Moses, Jesus, David, the 12 disciples, Herod, Samson and many other major biblical characters come to mind when visiting this amazing land.
When you take a Holy Land tour, you will surely have the opportunity to see many of the places mentioned in the Bible. In addition, you will have the advantage of seeing the people of that land - how they live, what they wear, what they eat, and much more. You need to plan on walking quite a bit, so it's a good idea to pack clothes that are comfortable and can be layered should you become too hot or cold. Your Holy Land tour is not a place to impress people with your sense of style. Instead, plan to wear comfortable shoes and loose-fitting clothes.
There are many key places that Christians look forward to seeing when they visit the land of Israel. Bethlehem is another well-visited place, as it was the birthplace of Jesus. While Bethlehem does have some modern places now, the culture and feel of days gone by is certainly prevalent as you walk through the streets. Bethlehem is a beautiful, spacious town with lovely landscapes and breathtaking views.
The town of Nazareth is another "must see" attraction for Christians. This is the city where Jesus grew up and lived out his childhood. Jesus moved to the town of Capernaum after King Herod imprisoned John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin. This is the town that Jesus lived as he grew into a man and disciples began to follow him. Peter, Andrew, James, John, and Matthew all decided to follow Jesus in the city of Capernaum.
The captivating Mount of Beatitudes is near Capernaum. The Sermon on the Mount is believed to have taken place here, although it can't be proven. Jesus performed many miracles in this quaint town. The beautiful Sea of Galilee is nearby here as well. These are the waters that Jesus often used to travel with his disciples. It was here that a violent storm threatened to take the lives of the disciples, but Jesus came walking to them on the waters and calmed the storm. Boat rides can be taken on these waters in order to imagine all that happened there many centuries ago.
The Garden of Gethsemane is a place where Christians become very emotional and sometimes moved to tears. Jesus was betrayed here by one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, and then turned over to Pilate to be sentenced to death. Crucifixion was a horribly cruel death, reserved for the worst of criminals.
Of course, Christians are joyful to visit the Garden Tomb, where Jesus' body was buried. However, as Christians believe, he rose after three days and then ascended to heaven. This is one leg of the journey that will make Christians particularly glad to have made the trip. Seeing this and the other amazing places will leave memories that will last a lifetime!
