Sexual Healing & Feeling
The second chakra is known in Sanskrit as Svadhisthana. It is also known as the Sacral chakra, and it helps you deal with your inner self. This chakra is located on your lower abdomen, just below your navel. It is the seat of emotions, sensations, creativity, and sexual desire. It also governs your sexual and reproductive organs. This chakra vibrates with the color orange. Orange is a color that's bright and vibrant and it vibrates energetically. It has 6 petals, which represents care for your family and the environment. This chakra also vibrates with the frequency of the note "D".
You can try chanting the mantra "vam" or "o" in the key of D to access it. Water is the element that governs this chakra. Water has many dimensions. It can be like a powerful river whose rapids are strong and aggressive. But it can also be like a lake; deep and quiet, but filled with life. This is similar to your range of emotions. Emotions, like water come in many forms. Anger can be likened to the strength of river rapids, while calmness can be associated to an unmoving lake. Your ability to deal with your emotions is determined by this chakra. If it is clear, then you have the power to love and feel loved. It also gives you the ability to nurture and provide, hence your natural need to procreate and start a family. This chakra also fuels your creativity. It gives you the drive to push your limits and allows your imagination to run free.
It gives you the power of self-expression, and allows you to feel comfortable about yourself and who you are. That's why your sexuality is also rooted in this chakra. However, too much emotional baggage can block this chakra. For example, if you were raised in an environment that prohibited your self-expression, then you will have difficulty in accessing this chakra. It can also be blocked by too much sorrow, anger, or negativity. Harboring these feelings will keep you from experiencing other emotions such as happiness or serenity. Blocking this chakra also prevents you from being able to engage in sexual relations. It makes you afraid to love and to start a serious relationship. This extreme suppression of your sexual desire can be translated into physical symptoms, such as sexual impotency, erectile dysfunction, abnormal menstruation, and the like. A block in the second chakra also blocks your creativity. This may cause writers and artists to feel uninspired or to lose their connections with their works of art. It can also make you feel trapped or bored with other aspects of your life, such as your job, your relationships, or your hobbies. To keep this chakra clear, you must let your inner child out.
Allow yourself to feel your emotions and express them in a productive manner. Do not sow seeds of hatred and anger in your heart. Instead, learn to forgive others for hurting you, and forgive yourself for your own shortcomings. Speak out and let your feelings be heard. Or if not, write, sing a song, or draw what you're feeling. Embrace your sexuality and take pride in who you are and in what you do. You can also try exercising this chakra by performing circulating pelvic exercises and pelvic thrusts. In yoga, this chakra can be strengthened by performing backward and forward bending poses and squats. In terms of nourishing this chakra, you can try eating sweet fruits, nuts, and honey. Expressing your emotions is often a difficult feat because people are raised to believe that this shows weakness. However, it is necessary to feel comfortable with your emotions so that you can attain peace. Opening and nourishing your second chakra can help you attain that.
