Comparing the Sun Heat Heater, Edenpure Heater, Solar Comfort Heater, Riccar Summer Breeze Heater, And Heat Smart Heater
The Sun Twin, Sun Heat, Edenpure, and Heat Smart portable heaters are very comparable. They use approximately ten cents an hour in electricity. That is just while they are on. All of them have thermostats that regulate the heat. We might bicker over which heater was designed first, which one is a clone of another one. Not an iota of that matters. They all use the equivalent quantity of electrical power, produce the same quantity of heat, are made outside of the Country, and are each priced at approximately $399.
Each of these heaters employ comparable heating tubes. Some name them "quartz tubes" but these are effectively infrared light bulbs that produce light and a considerable amount of heat.
The statements in some of the ads are exaggerated. The ads on occasion declare that the heater can heat "up to 1,000 square feet". How would they test to get those results? How high is the ceiling? What type of insulation do you have? The number of home windows? How frosty is it outside?
My understanding with these heaters (we advertise almost all of them in our retail business in Wooster Ohio) is that they can heat around 800 square feet or maybe a little more, if the circumstances are perfect.
Uninsulated basements will conduct the heat out of the room. These heaters won't heat an uninsulated basement. Garages that are not tightly insulated won't be heated successfully by these heaters. Several rooms will not be heated effectively. at one point in time
These restrictions have little to do with the quality or performance of the heaters, and a lot to do with the manner heat alone works. Heat raises in the air. A fan can stir the heated air in the room, even a huge room. But heat won't move down hallways, and around corners very well. These heaters are for the main living areas which might be properly insulated.
The two heaters that are a little bit unusual are the Solar Comfort heaters plus the Riccar heater. The Solar Comfort heater performs the same way as the others, but it makes use of four, easily replaceable heat lamps that are 375 watts each. The Solar Comfort heater also offers a HEPA filter on the air intake. The Solar comfort heater also offers a 15 pound heat exchanger which stores and releases heat. This makes the Solar Comfort heater weigh almost 45 pounds instead of the 30 pounds of the other heaters. The solitary downside of the Solar Comfort heater is that the heat lamps must be installed once you open the box. It won't come assembled. The Solar Comfort heater commonly sells for $495.
The Riccar Summer Breeze heater is the only heater like this made in the USA at the Riccar factory in St. James Missouri. The Riccar heater is distinctive in a few ways. The high temperature is generated by a steel heating coil that carries a 10 year factory warrant. The other heaters all carry a three year warranty.
The port the heat comes out in the front of the heater is unique. It is skewed downhill which allows the heat to contact parts of the floor, before the heat rises. The protective slats in the front of the heater are also insulated which means you can't get burned by touching any part of the heater. The warranty on the remainder of the heater is five years, and the Summer Breeze needs no assembly.
Make it a point to obtain your heater from a supplier that will be able to honor the manufacturer's warranty.
