Different Colors of Event Rugs for Different Events
The red carpet runner is something of the gold standard of rugs. People associate it with wealth, celebrity, and prestige. If that sounds like the kind of environment you want to project at your event, then I would suggest you buy a red carpet. When people think of red carpet runner they think of the Oscars and Grammys. When they walk down the red carpet they feel like stars themselves. Even if it is a school prom or corporate event you can add some glitz and glamor by using a red carpet runner.
For more formal events I would suggest a blue event rug. Red is decadent and celebratory but blue is a bit more regal and royal. While red carpet events require people to dress well, they aren't required to dress formally. Blue carpet events usually require tuxedos or suits for the men and evening dresses for the women. This makes them ideal for military balls and high end corporate events. Often, political fund raisers will use blue even runners.
Don't think you need to stick with solid color event rugs. If you want to project a funkier, artsy vibe, you can use patterned carpet. If this is the case, the more patterned event rugs the better. Patterned rugs are ideal for gallery openings, arts related fund raisers, costume parties and any events that are more about fun than formality. Make sure the pattern event runners you use match each other and the space they are in. Clashing patterns don't look good. Although matching pattern rugs is harden then matching solid colors ones patterns can really make a room pop.
You can feel free to get creative with your rug use. Is the event environmentally related? Why not use a green rug to drive the point home? A bipartisan event? Why not use a purple rug to show it's a cause everyone can get behind. Keep in mind you can buy red carpet (or other colors) and use it multiple times. If you think the rug will be used for several events I would suggest ownership. Event rug rental can be expensive and over time that cost will be greater than the purchase price of an event runner. These carpets are easy to store and care for. All you need to do is vacuum them, roll them up, and store them until your next event. A rug steaming or shampooing may also be in order every now and again.
