The Benefits Of Owning A Forum

by Tyrone Velasquez

From a first glance, creating a message board seems quite easy. After all, it doesn't take much time to create, since there are many pre made templates and programs which take minutes or less. However, we don't see thousands of people jumping at the chance, especially since it does become very time consuming as more members register. Although it may be difficult to stand out from the number of forums already out there, it can actually be beneficial for a webmaster to create one. There are many benefits to having a forum. One benefit is making great money. Many tend to use a program called Adsense; a pay per click program which generates money every time a person clicks on an advertisement. However, clicks are usually low in forums and the price per click is even lower. Is it worth it to use Adsense if the cash is almost nonexistent? If its possible to build a large and extensive forum, yes. However, it all depends on the type of forum. Webmaster forums will rarely generate clicks since webmasters themselves are not blind to the ads and know what they are there for. Overall, it can be very beneficial if the forum has great ad placement and a ton of traffic.Luckily, there are other ways to make money. Since it does take a lot of time and effort to keep a forum popular and running, offering a membership fee is a good idea. If your forum has great content, your visitors will not mind paying a small fee to keep their loyalty. However, it is crucial that you have a plan. One will rarely pull out their wad of cash if you don't have an incentive. Telling them why they should sign up and what they will gain is more important than anything else. If you mention that there also are perks, then they will be much more attentive.Perhaps one could remove all of the advertisements on this portion of the forum, since members are giving you money in the first place. This action may keep them coming back with new visitors to sign up as well. You could also join an affiliate program and offer products to your members. Perhaps if they buy a certain product you are pushing, you can waiver the membership fee. This way you make money either way!Unfortunately, there will always be a number of people who just want everything to be free. That is why it is also very important to keep a small section open to anyone who wants to come by. If every section requires a paid membership, traffic may dwindle immediately.
