Is Doing Business Online For You? Part 1

by Robert Dickinson

Today I would like to look at the characteristics of doing business online to see if an online business in a good fit for you personally and a wise place to spend your precious resources and scarce time. I want to divide this topic into the two major schools of practice that are in use today and then talk about future trends. This installment will cover the technological trends.

The first way of doing business on the internet is technology oriented, not people oriented. In this form, you will gather data (people’s first name and email address) and puts that data into an auto-responder that sells to them until the buy or unsubscribe. When they buy something you put them in a different auto-responder that givens them priority treatment which translates to more offers and more chances to buy. If you like to talk to people and you need a lot of people contact, then this form of online business may not be for you.

In this form you will spend time in front of your computer writing, learning, and thinking. It will be necessary to form a team to succeed. That team may consist of a computer code writer in Calcutta, India, an accountant in Spokane, WA, and a mentor in Atlanta, GA. You may never see these people face to face. You will deal with customers from every time zone around the world and never speak to the majority of them yet they can become your loyal customers. You can also choose to deal only with people in a certain country or area to begin with and then grow into other markets as you gain confidence and competence. You will be able to market products you have never held in your hand to people you will never see in a market that is growing so fast that even the experts can only talk about trends and not hard numbers. The shift from brick and mortar businesses to E-commerce is happening more quickly that anyone has expected and the rules of how to do this new form of business are changing at a dizzying rate.

In internet marketing done this way, you won’t be calling people up at dinner time trying to sell them something they don’t want at a time when they are not ready to buy. You will deal with people who are looking for your product or service and they will seek you out from amongst thousands of other choices. You will have to convince them you are trustworthy and competent and that your product is what they need. You will do this persuading with written words, audio recordings or video presentations that you prepare once and people view thousands of times. You will be able to market to people who like to shop at 3 A. M. without having to be awake when they want to do business

Many things will not make a difference. Your personal appearance or speech patterns will not matter. You clothes won’t determine how high you can rise in the business. Your house will not matter although it will be your business location for as long as you want it to be. You do not have to live in a particular location. Where you are right now is fine. You will not need thousands of dollars to start. There will be times when you need to buy things, but you will be in control of the date and the rate that you spend your money. The internet is not like a franchise where you have to invest $200,000 to buy the sandwich shop where you will work for years before making a profit. You can start your business with your computer and your brain. You will need to learn new things because there is a great deal of knowledge you will need to be successful. The good news is you do not have to know it all before you can get started. It will be possible to make money very early on so you can fund the growth of your business from the proceeds of the business you are growing.

There will be lots of people who want to help you. Almost all of them will have a product or a course that will be exactly what you need to rocket you business to the top with little effort and no time invested on your part. It is possible to spend a great deal of money and only have a bookshelf full of courses you have never opened. I have such a book shelf. I am writing this newsletter to offer trust worthy guidance from someone who has traveled this road and made lots of costly mistakes because I did not have someone who was willing to warn me about the pitfalls and point me toward the real consistent profits to be made from doing an internet business the right way.

Till next time,

Bob Dickinson

P.S. One talent you will need no matter what form of internet marketing you enter will be writing emails that sell products. I came upon an excellent free course that teaches just that. You can find it at http://www.emailpromosexposed.com/?thankyou-page=8750.
