Getting Tough On Online Marketing/Promoting A Website (Part 3 Of 3)

by Darren Young

Article WritingI believe article writing has replaced eBooks and of course everyone tells you that you should write an article or two with your link embedded in the content as a way to market/promote your website. Article writing is very similar to writing eBooks, but instead of having the article in a PDF file, you submit the article to online websites that accept articles. This works a lot better than eBooks because the search engines are able to find keywords and your link in the article because it’s in HTML code on another website. This helps to give you extra incoming links and can be very effective in doing so.Just like the eBooks we mentioned earlier, article writing has caught on as an excellent way to market/promote a website. Everybody either knows or has heard of this kind of method and now almost everybody is doing it. There are now literally, billions of articles circulating on the web and just like eBooks, many of them are similar in content, just worded differently. It can be quite confusing to someone trying to find information on the web because there’s so much information with different opinions that it’s sometimes hard to tell who is right and who is wrong. This can be time consuming and frustrating for people trying to find answers and that’s why you need to write an article on a topic that you have knowledge about. If you’re not sure about a certain topic, then you can always research it and then write an article as long as it’s in your own words, as you don’t want to violate any copyright laws. Can I write an article? Yes, anybody who sets their mind to it can write an article as long as they have knowledge in the topic that they are writing about. Articles can vary in size, but most online article sites only accept articles that have two thousand words or less, so you should aim for that. If you do go over, you can always split your article up into parts just like this article you are reading. You also have the option to hire someone to write the article for you if you’d prefer to do that instead. There are many talented writers on the web looking for work who will research and write about any topic that you choose.Once you have finished writing an article and placed it on other free article websites, it doesn’t stop there. Other website owners will then be able to use your article for their website because search engines like websites with lots of quality content. The great thing about this is that when they place your article on their website, they’re required to also place your links along with the article, which in return gives you more incoming links to your website and possibly more traffic from those links. With your article circulating on the web, you’ll have incoming links to your website for years to come. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Link FarmsA link farm is a page full of random links that are somewhat organized, but not usually and they’ll accept any URL. The links don’t even have a description, which of course, the search engines won’t be able to find you. These kinds of sites were very popular at one time until webmasters found out that the search engines were banning sites that owned a link farm and that placing your link on a link farm really didn’t do any good for your websites ranking in the search results. Placing a link on a link farm can actually lower your ranking. Why doesn’t this method work anymore? One of the reasons, which I mentioned, is that search engines don’t like link farms. Search engines have also changing their algorithms on how websites are ranked. It’s no longer the quantity of incoming links that you have to your website, but the quality of the links, meaning you want websites that are related to yours to link to you instead of just anyone and vise versa. Another thing is that a link that is placed on a webpage with just two other outbound links is going to be much better than a link placed on a webpage with several hundred outbound links. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Exchanging LinksI mentioned a little bit about this kind of marketing/promotion in the banners/text links section and I’m not going to go into much detail about this method because I think everybody knows what it is, since it’s now widely known on the Internet. For those who don’t know, exchanging links is when two websites agree to place the opposite websites URL on their website. Search engines require websites to have quality incoming links in order for them to be ranked high in the search results. Exchanging links is still one of the better methods to market/promote a website, but getting the incoming links is tough work and can take a lot of time and effort. There are however, link-exchanging websites on the Internet to help you with this. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Search EnginesEvery website owner wants their website to rank higher in the search engines and sometimes they focus their full attention on the search engines as being the only source for bringing high quality targeted traffic to their website. The truth is there are many other marketing/promotion techniques that work just as well in bringing the traffic to your site and you shouldn’t just rely on the search engines.Search engines can be very picky in how they rank a website and there have been many people over the last several years trying to figure out how they work. Search engines have a complicated algorithm that they go by in order to rank websites. Using keywords on your site was all it used to take to get your website ranked high in the search engines, until webmasters started “Keyword Spamming” their pages. This is why the search engines are always up-dating their algorithms, so that nobody can influence the search engines to get a better ranking. There are in fact NO secrets on how to get your website ranked fast above all the other links in the search results. It does however involve a lot of time, effort, and sometimes money, just like everything else. So what makes a website rank higher in a search engine result? There are basically only two things, SEO and high quality incoming links. Yup, it doesn’t seem like a lot, but trying to accomplish these two tasks is harder then what it looks. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Free URL Submission ServicesNEVER submit your website to free automated URL submission services that claim to submit to the major search engines, FFA (Free For All) pages, etc. Always find a reputable business that can do submissions for you like a professional business that deals with marketing/promoting websites daily. I did a free URL submission on one of my businesses in the past and got my URL banned from some of the major search engines. Search engines can usually detect if you use a free submission service and they will ban you if you do without giving it a second thought, as they don’t like anyone that tries to “Stuff Links”. You shouldn’t submit to FFA pages anyways as not much traffic comes from these websites and also your link usually only stays on the pages for less than a week. It’s not worth getting banned and you’re just better off submitting to the search engines and quality link pages manually yourself or by someone you can trust. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.SEO (Search Engine Optimization)This topic is too big to talk about in this article, but there’s lots of advice on the Internet on how to accomplish this very important factor that a website must have to be successful. SEO involves creating your sites meta tags which includes a title, keywords, and a description for your site. This kind of optimization is what helps the search engines find your site and give you a ranking in their search results. It’s very important that your websites are search engine friendly and this is something that you should put deep consideration into when designing a website. If you’re creating a websites on your own, always keep SEO in mind. If you’re getting your website created by another programmer, then make sure that they know how to do SEO for a website. It may cost a little more, but in the long run it’s worth it because if you don’t, then you’ll probably be spending more in the future because it’s harder to implement SEO on a site that’s already been created. DON’T DESIGN A WEBSITE WITHOUT SEO.You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Ranking WebsitesDo ranking websites work? Yes, ranking websites are a great way to market/promote your products, services, or website. Many people don’t want to waste their time searching all over the web trying to locate websites that sell specific products or services that they are looking for. This is where ranking websites come in handy and allow customers to view thousands of different products and services from many different websites. Ranking sites are a great way of bringing many unique and different products or services together and to help bring the buyers to the sellers. www.T-ShirtShowdown.com is a great example of a ranking website where it offers many different T-Shirt categories to choose from including: Animal, Artistic, Attitude, Automobile, Biker, Computer, Floral, Funny, Holiday, Kids, Logo, Misc., Movie, Music, Novelty, Occupation, Offensive, Patriotic, Pets, Political, Religious, Sports, Unusual, Vintage, and Western. This makes it easier for a customer who wants to purchase a T-Shirt and means that they don’t have to spend countless hours searching the web.You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Should I Blame Certain Methods Or Third Party Websites? No, you should NEVER blame a method or third party website in failing to bring you visitors or make you sales. If you do this, then you are only passing the blame and avoiding the REAL problem. The methods or third party websites are only there to help you get more targeted traffic and aren’t responsible for bringing you the traffic or making you sales. It’s your website, products, or services in the end that have to interest or convince the visitors to buy/purchase them. If your products or services aren’t selling like you thought they should, then you need to step back and look at what you’re doing wrong or why they aren’t selling. NEVER blame your failure on someone else. A good question that you should always ask yourself is “Would I buy my products or services?”. Sometimes it’s even better to get other opinions from your family, friends, or visit a forum to get opinions from random strangers that likely won’t be biased. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.Outside AdvertisingMore and more people are looking to outside advertising to market/promote because the Internet is becoming a much tougher place to spread the word about their website, but we’ll save that for another article. You can find this article and several more at www.T-ShirtShowdown.com.If you’d like to copy this article and place it on your website or pass it around, then you are FREE to do so as long as you copy the article in it’s entirety, keep the links intact, and don’t make any modifications whatsoever.
