Acer Aspire 5315 Review – UK Bestselling Notebook
Acer Aspire 5315 Review
The laptop has now turned out to be so much part of Western life; it would probably feel like a misplaced leg if we did not have one. Easy to lug around with us, superb battery life these, especially considering the system power compared with two years ago, with most going for over two hours. Although if you are using it for business, it is always best to have a spare battery powered to full capacity.
The only problem with laptops is which one do you pick? So many, and then when you find one which you may like, you then have to decide which components are best in that model. A lot of people get confused at this stage, and hopefully with my years of computer knowledge I can help you select the one that will do all you need, and present the best value for money.
This Acer Aspire 5315 review is impartial, as I have nothing to do with the company, the basis why I have made the effort to write this article is to hopefully save you a few quid, and help you understand what it is you are purchasing.
The Acer Aspire 5315 is one of the UK’s bestselling laptops, for the simple reason it offers the best value for money compared to similar models sold online, and in the High Street shops. In fact you will most likely pay more in the High Street, so buy it online. Online computer stores do not have to pay as many outgoings as the High Street shops, so you are not making a donation to the spotty sales reps wages!
Most folk see all the numbers after a computer models name, and go for what looks the largest, especially if a salesman is trying to make his monthly bonus. So below I explain what the difference is between the two Acer Aspire 5315’s in the range.
First off all, they both have precisely the same outside ports (everything you need as standard), WIFI, DVD/CD rewriter, keyboard, 15.4" TFT screen, etc, the only one variation is the more expensive model has a webcam built-in.
Inside they both contain the excellent Celeron M530 1.73GHz. This is a purpose built mobile chip that saves power, but is still very . Some laptops contain desktop chips, these can overheat, and can drain the battery dry in no time, so steer clear. All processors built for laptops with have the letter ‘M’ somewhere in them.
You may see processors like 1.46Ghz, 1.73Ghz, 1.8Ghz, etc. Sales folk will push the bigger numbers saying more power, faster processing: true, but we are talking milliseconds which they handily forget to mention! So only go for the bigger number if it is in your price range, otherwise forget it, you will notice little or no difference at all.
Both the Acer Aspire 5315 models, also contain 1024MB, which is enough for Windows Vista (which is supplied) to run well enough. You can always upgrade another 1024MB for around £20-£30 later on, it will most likely speed it up around 5%-15%. Adding extra RAM is explained in the manual for all laptops, and is simple to do. The system also includes the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 which, like most laptops uses shared memory, rather than its own, and is fast enough for photo editing & running CADCAM software. It flies through things like Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. (If you are looking to play the latest games, or do video editing, you are best looking at a higher Acer Aspire model like the 7520 or 5920).
So what are the real differences between the models? Well one costs around £300, the other is £350. The basic model comes with 80GB’s of hard drive space, while the more expensive has 120GB’s storage. After that, the only other difference is the base model has Windows Vista Home installed, and the dearer model has Windows Vista Premium. I would not worry about this though, not much between them that you would notice.
So is it worth buying the Acer Aspire 5315? It is not the UK’s bestselling laptops, and both models are well worth the money. I would not even consider other makes in this price range.
