Weed killer – Selective Or Non-Selective? That Is The Question

If you have a weed and unwanted plant growth problem in your garden then the obvious way to get rid of this is with weed killer. There are lots of different makers and manufacturers of weed killer, some more renowned than others but one of the main questions that you need to ask yourself is whether you need selective weed killer or non-selective weed killer?

If you are a keen gardener or devote a lot of time to the upkeep of your homes surroundings then you are likely to know the difference between selective and non-selective products. If you are not a hobby gardener but need to take action on weeds that are sprouting and have become unsightly then it is worth taking note of the differences otherwise the consequences of using the wrong one could ruin your garden.

Non-selective means that the weed killer will kill all plant life and vegetation it comes into contact with and not just the unsightly weeds you were aiming to kill. Put in on your lawn and it will die! Get a bit on your prize flowerbeds and your flowers will die! Basically, only apply it to plant life that you want to kill. Selective weed killer has been specially made for killing weeds such as lawn weeds and it can distinguish between weeds and other plant life. Non-selective products are more powerful than selective and is fantastic for weeds such as those found on patios, pathways and driveways where accuracy isn't particularly important and the weeds are not directly next to grass and other such plant life that you do not wish to kill. Selective is usually more expensive so be sure to select the correct weed killer for your particular problem.
