How To Look Smart On A Shoestring
It's not easy looking smart when you are short of money and payday is a month away. Many men would love to wear a Saville Row suit, Thomas Pink shirt, silk tie and silver cufflinks but the reality is somewhat different. It is more likely to be a supermarket cut suit and cheap shirt and tie combo.
But it is possible to look sharp and 'on trend' when times are hard and money is in short supply. The trick is to find classy clothes at a fraction of the price and wearing them well. Save up and buy a few, quality items which will last for years rather than lots of cheap clothing.
Choose classic items of clothing
Choose classic rather than trendy clothing. Classic clothing never dates and always looks good whereas trends come and go. Remember: fashion is cyclical so go for simple, well designed clothing which will last for years. You will pay more for these initially but they are made from strong, durable materials which are known for their long lasting qualities.
Good choices include a trenchcoat, white dress shirt, plain coloured jumper, blue jeans and black shoes. You can't go wrong with any of these.
Bargain hunt
There are plenty of bargains to be had if you are clever and prepared to spend the time looking around. Many high street shops have sales so keep an eye out for when these are and snap up an item of clothing at a fraction of the price. Designer outlet villages are another option.
But don't forget about the internet either. There are plenty of offers online so browse through various retail sites where there are some fantastic offers to be had.
Recycle
Many people choose to sell old or unwanted items of clothing on sites such as eBay and use the money to buy new clothing. Have a look through your wardrobe and sell any clothing which you have not worn or are unlikely to wear. Be ruthless. If you have not worn that jumper or pair of trousers for several months or years then the chances are you are unlikely to do so in the future so get rid.
Spruce up your wardrobe
You can spruce up an old outfit or add a touch of class with a few accessories. A new shirt and tie will jazz up a tired looking suit or splash out on a pair of well-made shoes. This is particularly important if you are job hunting and need to make a good impression.
