Invisalign Braces: A Plain Substitute For Metal Braces

by Mark Miller

Cost, treatment procedure and the final appearance... These are among the few but important factors that fill your mind when you visit a dentist's office and you are told that you need braces to either strengthen or align your teeth properly. The time duration that it will take before your teeth get aligned should also be considered. This includes the cleanings and adjustments that are mandatory when you have braces on.

To many, metal braces spoil their mood for the day for they see them as a curse. People feel embarrassed having them on especially those in the teen age group onwards. You feel as if everyone is ridiculing you and not forgetting all the discomfort that comes with them. But this should not be the end of the world for you. There is a better alternative to metal braces.

There is a new kind of modern alternative to metal braces that has got many dental patients talking and praising. Invisalign braces also referred to by many as invisible braces, or simply Invisalign, are the newest dental appliances on the block. Benefits that come with these braces are many and efficient to a dental patient who needs teeth straightening or strengthening.

Safety's a matter of priority when it comes to using invisible braces. You will not have to worry about getting hard while using them. Another benefit is that these braces are from the human eye. "Invisible" as the words suggest, means that only you, the patient, will be aware of their existence in your mouth. Besides visibility benefits, there are tons more that you should not about.

The advantages include:

- Fit for all age groups: adults are the ones who worry most about their personal appearance. However, they will find invisible braces to be perfectly "invisible" to the outside world. They will not interfere with your personal appearance.

- Cost: the cost for this method of dental treatment varies and largely depends on the scale of your medication. Unlike some treatment methods, you will only be charged as to how bad the state of your teeth appears.

- Treatment Period: whereas you are required to wear metal braces for an extended period of time before your teeth get straightened or strengthened, the case is the opposite with invisible braces. The time required for the completion of the treatment is minimal.

How Invisible Braces Work

A 3D computer imaging system is used to illustrate impressions of a patient's mouth. The computer can illustrate the full treatment that will be required to restore a patient's teeth to a good positioning. Once the teeth impressions are taken, new aligners are modelled for you. These aligners will be placed in your mouth, and in a course of 2-3 weeks you will be receiving a different set of aligners from your dental practitioner until your teeth are well aligned.

You will be probably safe when using invisible aligners since they are from well-built, medical grade plastic. What's more, dental patients have their aligners created for each of them.
