How is Your Health After Christmas?

While Christmas is a time for celebration, it is also a time when our health quite often is all but celebrating.

We tend to drink a little too much, and eat a little too much, and what makes matters worse are the types of foods that we are eating.

Most people like to indulge in the 'goodies' at Christmas and these are precisely the foods that our bodies are not needing as another year comes to an end.

Many of us are tired and in need of a little bit of rest and relaxation and while we might be a bit less active we place ever increasing strain on our digestive system and many other aspects of our health by bombarding them with low value foods that are high in sugar, flour and processed foods.

It is quite alright to indulge in some of these treats once in a while, but the festivities of Christmas often spill over into the following days and sometimes weeks.

The problem with this is, the longer we mistreat our body the longer it will take to recover.

Another problem that is associated with eating these ‘low value’ foods is the fact that they make us tend to crave for more even though our body is saying stop!

The simple answer is to enjoy the foods and drink that we like but maintain a level of restraint so we don’t feel unwell the next day and cause undue strain on or overall health.

Take the time to really enjoy that piece of chocolate or that glass of wine rather than attempting to consume vast quantities of either.

The odd piece of chocolate, of a small glass of wine will certainly not do most people any harm but everything needs to be in moderation.

You will agree with this when you wake up the next morning and still feel fresh and energized to face another day.

Going for a walk, or participating in some light exercise will also help to ward off the detrimental elements of the festive season and don’t forget to stay hydrated with water, which becomes even more necessary when you are consuming alcohol.

Just a few small changes can make a huge difference to the way you cope with the Christmas and New Year festivities.
