Conveyors Scrap Handlers / Handling Applications
"The handling of scrap materials and its transportation over short and long distances require customized conveyor belts. Such belts need to heavy duty and with high resistance to multiple items. Scrap handling systems have been developed primarily to reduce costs of labor. Hence one need to understand that an efficiently designed scrap system uses as little manual labor as well as horsepower to move the scrap.

Pneumatic scrap handling processes make use of material handling fans and trim cutters to break down scrap into manageable sizes pieces for increasing ‘conveying efficiency’. In the multiple machine systems, scrap material drops on a single conveyor, which moves it to a material-handling fan. If the volume is high or a shredder and material-handling fan is used. The scrap is torn into pieces for transfer through a single, much smaller pneumatic system (using less CFM) to a material separator and baler. Hence, scrap-handling conveyors should be designed so that it can be easily installed above or below floor. The simplest design should have a single heavy-duty chain that can carry cast flights along an abrasion resistant trough.
Conveying and elevating scrap away from stamping or machining operations is essential in most scrap handling system designs. Hence the conveyor design should be able to take the scarp away to safe distances of 400 feet. An optional distribution chute system should also automatically try direct scrap into easily handled containers for disposal. Conveyor unit that have the capability to provide positive discharge and features minimal moving parts are also the best for scrap handling.
