A List Of Important Factors That Make Or Break Your Website

by Casey Trillbar

It is never easy to create an impressive website. This is so because you have to consider so many things that you often mess things up. But if you are trying to design a website and want it to perform impressively, you should keep the following list with you all the time.

• Make sure you don't use "hard-to-read" text. Fonts should be large enough for your visitors to read everything with ease. You should avoid using tiny text or fancy fonts. It is also advisable to say no to the "blinking text" as this would make text difficult to read.

• Stay away from using complex URL structures. The simple a URL structure is, the better it is for you and your website. It is always a good idea to have a keyword-based URL structure because it not only helps your visitors find out more about the page they are going to visit but it also helps improve your search engine ranking.

• Navigation structure should be simple. It is always a good idea to have single navigation system for your website. Moreover, you should seriously think of having text navigation. This is for two reasons: it is more reliable and it is faster as well. This will also help those visitors who like to surf the internet with images turned off.

• Don't use PDF files on your website. People really don't want to waste their time in downloading a .PDF file to collect the information they want. At the same time, you should never direct your users to a link that leads to a PDF file. It is so because users have to wait or may find their browser freezing while Acrobat Reader launches. In case you really want a PDF file to be checked by your user, give them the chance to decide. Let them know that they are about to open a PDF file that may take a while to load.

• You should always keep in mind that a professional software or program should be used for website designing. Some people use FrontPage for their websites. It is true that you will find it easier to create websites using FrontPage or other cheap HTML editors, but the website would not be impressive. It is so because these HTML editors utilize poorly crafted codes that are not compatible with several browsers. So, pay attention to this point and keep your visitors from dealing with several bugs as they visit your website. • Make it easier for users to differentiate between clickable and non-clickable content. In other words, you should highlight, bold, or underline links to help visitors check different links.

The crux of the matter is that though it looks an easy task to design a website, which is mainly due to the availability of HTML editors and other programs, you will have to put some thought into designing your website in a professional way. These points will help you reduce the chances of making a mistake when building a website.
