Finding A Love Potion That Works

The mythical love potion of songs and fiction has been right under our noses for the entire rung of human history. Well in a way it has been all over us and it has been detectable through tiny receptors inside of our nose that act as something of a sixth sense of sexuality. This love formula is of course a natural occurring phenomena of human pheromones, an essence that gives itself off and can set off the hormones of a person in a way that is utterly confounding without them. In the last few decades perfume and cologne companies have made a huge move towards incorporating these human pheromones in a pheromone spray and a wide array of different fragrances which attempt to harness these chemicals in a lab approximated form.

Results for many of these pheromone perfumes and colognes have varied but some of these attempts have hit on the magic combination that might be the closest we will ever get to a love potion. Of course the love potions of old Warner Brothers cartoons is a far more extreme version of what actually occurs. Where those cartoon characters would become uncontrollably enamored with whomever fell into their eye or smell line as soon as the potion was imbibed or sprayed these fragrances work a lot differently and more subtly. The power of pheromones is mostly in implied suggestion. A person picks up the scent in their nose and receives an unidentified attraction to another person. From there the usual intricacies of human mating have to play themselves out, perhaps with an added boost of implied affection, but still the perfume or cologne is not likely to seal the deal all on it's own. No one will be waking up with a complete misunderstanding of what motives lead them to that moment.

The science of love and of love making has long been an area of focused exploration for egg headed scientists and researchers. In some ways, though the interesting research in pheromones have made many leaps in this science, it seems we will likely never fully understand the nature of love and attraction. Were we to develop such a sense of how and why everything happens much of the mystery and excitement of these parts of our lives might be eradicated. I am, whenever the science of attraction is brought up reminded of a song lyric from a band called the Hold Steady in their song "Boys And Girls In America", the lyric is "big heads and soft bodies make for lousy lovers." The line seems to get to the heart of the shortcomings of science. Not that we wouldn't all like to bolster our chances with the proven science of some pheromone cologne or perfume.
