Do High-End Hotels Turn Off Potential Customers by Intimidating Them?

by Sarah Simmons

Luxury hotels are only for the rich and famous, right? Well that is probably what most of us think. But the fact of the matter is that often times high-end hotels create an image of such elevated luxury that everyday travelers are too intimidated to even look into the rates of the hotel. We immediately think we can't afford to stay at such a place even though we probably could.

By giving the impression that rooms cost much more than they really do, the hotel is actually hurting itself more than it is helping due to the loss of potential guests. Unfortunately, the guest is also missing out on experiencing top-end luxury accommodations.

Some luxury hotels create an intimidating presence not only by featuring the largest, most lavish suites available, but also by creating the image of a lifestyle most cannot relate to—like images of beautiful, glamorous models most of us don't look like. What potential guests need to remember is to never judge a book by its cover. You never know, you may be happily surprised when you find out you don't have to settle on less-than lavish accommodations. Like you may have heard from your parents growing up, the answer is always "no" if you don't ask, so looking in to the prices of where you want to stay can really benefit you. You may even find special promotional deals going on for the hotel rooms you have always wanted to stay at.

So with the understanding that you should always check the prices of the luxury hotel before assuming you cannot afford it, it is also important to understand what is included in that price. Does the hotel offer refreshing accommodations that are modern and rejuvenating? Do they offer a spa and fitness center? How about their in-room dining service—do they offer 24-hour room service? Or maybe you prefer fine dining at the hotel's cuisine and a relaxing lounge where you can unwind with a cocktail. Are you planning a business meeting? If so, consider what the hotel offers for social events. If you are traveling with the family, you should definitely look in to what activities they offer that are just for the kids. Do they offer a game-room and is the hotel's location nearby family-friendly attractions?

There are so many things that a luxury hotel in the right location can offer you and your family, many of which will save you from spending elsewhere. But one of the most important things to consider is the hotel's standards of customer service. Are they honest about their pricing and availability? Do they respond with effective answers? A reputable luxury hotel will provide a comfortable and efficient customer service and reservation process that can save you from unnecessary worry. Choosing higher-end hotel rooms can also take the guess-work out of planning the perfect get-away, as many offer exceptional concierge services to help guide you around town, which many find to be extremely helpful in getting the most out of your experience.

With all of this in mind, understand that hotels often hurt themselves by creating such an extravagant image. High luxury hotels are not always out of your price range—just check the prices and you may find yourself enjoying lavish accommodations you never thought you could afford.
