Solar Electricity System: The Frontier of Sustainable Energy

by Jeff Kapellen

Over the past 100 years, the electricity provided funding opportunities for major events and improvements known to mankind. New technologies and innovations are constantly evolving with an addiction to electricity. As the global economy increases, so does the skyrocketing demand for electricity. Today, electricity has become a commodity, we can not live without. In the past, fossil fuels like coal and oil has given us the resources to produce our own electricity using generators in power plants. Since the recognition that fossil fuels are not unlimited and potentially dangerous for the environment and inhabitants of the Earth, increased demand for new research has led to the development of secure energy sources and cleaner. One such source is solar.

Photovoltaic systems use direct and indirect methods of solar energy. Direct methods, the use of solar energy, which is commonly known as solar cells made from thin slices of crystalline gallium arsenide, silicon or other semiconductor materials to convert sunlight into electricity. By connecting a large number of these cells, panels, solar electricity prices fell by 20-30 cents per kilowatt hour. This technique has long been used to provide electricity to satellites, orbiting satellites and deep space observing. Photovoltaic systems offer long-term sustainable source of energy, since there are no mechanical parts, which are otherwise in a situation where the power generation. However, the effectiveness of these cells are relatively low and depends on the time of day and seasonal variations. The solar electricity systems needed to convert direct current into alternating current compatible to be used for commercial and domestic use.

Indirect methods rely on the concentration of solar radiation to heat or cook up some liquids such as water, turbines, and finally to generate electricity. A common use of technology is the parabolic trough, which consists of a linear parabolic reflector that focuses on the solar receiver located a focal length equivalent to the receiver. A focal length equivalent to the receiver, the pipe connected to the turbine is filled with liquid to absorb heat from concentrating solar power. Photovoltaic systems, like this one has a higher efficiency because the heat of the sun directly used. Other technologies to extend the efficiencies of using solar power towers and solar dishes.

We have experienced the benefits of fossil fuels, and realized its negative consequences. The transition to a sustainable and cleaner energy must be to ensure life on earth. The wiring of solar power plants, even before man ever existed. Why can not we copy the ability of energy from the sun, when we are more intelligent beings? We need to stop digging the soil and oceans and start looking up into the sky. Photovoltaic systems provide the means to achieve this goal.
