How to Have the Mind of a Successful Leader
People tend to think that leaders who've gotten to the top of the ladder in their careers, communities, and/or personal lives have either gotten lucky or had helping hands along the way. What is often overlooked is how the Leaders themselves actually used their minds to create their own opportunities and successes.
The following are the types of beliefs, thinking, and action patterns great leaders have practiced to propel them up the ladder to success. Practice these mindsets and you, too can reach and probably even surpass your professional and personal goals.
1. Have a big dream.
A successful leader dreams big dreams like running the most successful…., or breaking new records at ….., or creating a new technology…., or being the youngest to ever ……. Formulate a big, juicy dream that frightens and excites you at the same time.
2. Know the destination point.
An accomplished leader draws up and follows specific game plans with appropriate time, manpower and money estimations needed to achieve his or her dreams. Draw up a plan that you can begin following today!
3. Believe it is possible.
A true leader does not hope or wish that things will turn out. Instead, he believes with his heart and soul that his dream will come to fruition. Believe in your dream.
4. Focused and determined mind.
An adept leader practices single-mindedly focusing her time, energy, thoughts and actions towards fulfilling her dream. Dogmatically focus in the direction of your dream.
5. Find others who believe in your dream.
A true leader understands that he is not an island unto himself. Therefore, he surrounds himself with those who believe in and support him in making the dream a reality. Build your own dream team.
6. See problems as only "things to be handled".
Research indicates that a successful leader is not thwarted or crippled by problems that may arise, because she views problems as mere inevitable situations that get to be handled. Expect to have and solve problems.
7. Re-evaluate and try new things.
Great leaders are strategic thinkers who take the time to evaluate and re-evaluate the present and upcoming situations so that they can adapt and try new things to meet the changing circumstances. Keep your eyes wide open and be willing to change the way things have always been done.
8. Love challenges.
If you keep your mind focused on loving the process of achieving the next big goal and overcoming challenges, then you are already on the path to being a passionate leader. True leaders love challenges and do not fear failure. Take on challenges as though it is a fun game and go for it!
9. Keep on plugging.
When the going gets rough, successful leaders get going. They combine determination, discipline and persistence to keep them moving in the direction of their dreams. Stay in action.
10. Appreciate constructive criticism and do not take things personally.
Wonderful leaders realize that they are not perfect and are open to improving themselves by accepting constructive criticism from others. Even still, they do not internalize constructive criticism as a personal affront. Listen open-mindedly to criticism without taking it personally.
