How To Make A Gym At Home

by Sam Qam

Do you want to get into shape but you just don't have the time to go a gym? Or maybe you live up a mountain and your nearest gym is 20 miles away or you may just hate the thought of working out in the same room as 100 sweaty strangers. Whatever your reasons for not wanting to join a gym fear not, you can still get into shape by creating your very own gym at home. Here are some tips to help you create your perfect workout space.

Find The Right Space

Obviously you will need to have a bit of space to manoeuvre in; you don't want to be trying to exercise in your living with the rest of the family trying to watch TV past you. If you have free space in a garage, extension or a spare room in the house then you have an ideal home gym location.

Workout Your Workout

The next step is to figure out what kind of workout you want to do as the equipment you use will depend on this. Do you want to lose weight and get fit or do you want to bulk up and look like Hulk Hogan? If you are going for weight loss then treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines are the kind of equipment you will want. If you are going for strength training then a bench press and dumbbells are needed.

It Doesn't Have To Cost The Earth

Gym equipment can be expensive but now that you know what kind of workout you need you can start to think of alternatives to expensive equipment. A simple skipping rope can give you an amazing workout and an exercise ball can be used for so many different exercises. There are plenty of things that you can do without expensive equipment, if you have the space why not use it for sit ups, press ups and squat thrusts?

Make Sure It's Safe

The last thing you want is to be found under a pile of your own weight lifting equipment so you need to ensure that your gym is completely safe. Any heavy equipment should be properly installed and fixed down so that weights won't slip off mid-session. If you hang up a punching bag for example then make sure the wall or ceiling has the strength to support it. Using free weights such as kettlebells are probably the best things to use to be safe.
