What happens to your body when the pH of your body fluids goes below its optimum 7.4 pH (slightly alkaline)? This is a sign that your mineral reserves of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, etc. are being depleted in the process of neutralizing the acids released by metabolism and other functions of the body. Protein metabolism produces sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. Carbohydrate and fat metabolism produce acetic acid and lactic acid. These acids are poisonous to the body if not properly eliminated through the kidneys & large intestine. Mineral compounds are created to neutralize these acids. If enough minerals are not available & these acids reach the kidneys, then ammonia is created (highly alkaline) to neutralize the acids. As your minerals reserves are depleted the body pH becomes more & more acid until malnourishment, exhaustion, pain, & disease take hold. What can you do to regain a healthier pH level? Quite simply, by consuming more foods that are alkaline forming & reducing the intake of foods that are acid forming. Alkaline forming foods are coincidentally high in calcium & other minerals. Sea vegetables are highly alkaline w/ kidney beans, soybeans, azuki beans, bananas, & carrots following right behind them. Other fruits & vegetables are slightly alkaline forming. Avoid highly acid forming foods such as grains, meat, & refined food. Herman Alhara wrote a great book entitled Acid & Alkaline and Dr. Ted Morter Jr. has a book entitled Dynamic Health which goes into further detail. Fatigue is the number one sign of over acidity. Lack of oxygen from carbon dioxide build up, reduced nerve action, and poor metabolism all lead to exhausting in various degrees. The internal organs are stressed and try to maintain homeostasis until one day the warning signals alert you in the form of exhaustion. Exhaustion opens the door for disease to take root in the body.
