Pilates can be an excellent way to get fit. Anyone can benefit from this great way of exercising. The following myths are simply not true.
###1. You need to be extremely fit to do Pilate's practise
The only people that should avoid Pilate's practice is those who have sustain an injury that would negatively impact their ability to benefit from Pilates. Everyone else, from young to old, can easily jump in and begin to learn Pilates. The more one practices the easier it will be to do basic workouts and move onto more challenging ones. People will find it is easier to do the positions within just a few sessions.
###2. Only women do Pilates
While many woman enjoy Pilates, the exercise is not designed only for them. Many men have taken up Pilates and enjoy the workout they receive. They can benefit by obtaining more flexibility, toning, and a stronger core. Additionally, much of the workout is self-focused so you will be too busy concentrating on your own positions to have time to feel self conscious.
###3. There is no weight training
While basic Pilates routines do not involve weights, it does involve strength training. The same weight training effect can be achieved through the Pilates resistance tools, such as rings, resistance bands, or strings.
###4. You must be flexible
One can begin Pilates workout without being extremely agile or flexible. With practice and time one will become more flexible. It can take a couple of workout sessions to truly get comfortable with some of the positions, but after that your body will naturally adjust and be able to obtain greater control and flexibility.
###5. There is no traditional workout benefits
Everyone can benefit for physical activity, which Pilates is. It is a strength training workout for your whole body which will increase your flexibility and strengthen and tone your body.
It is my hope that the above information has busted some of the many preconceived ideas about what Pilates is and is not. If you do not like some of the more traditional exercise classes available, this can be a great option to add a fulfilling workout to your busy week.
