Carpets can take up a lot of dirt that can be quite conspicuous. The dirt rarely appears beneath the sofas, but at the center of the carpet where everyone walking in can clearly see it. This makes the carpet cleaning necessary, so that the lifespan of the carpet is assured and the fresh clean look is retained. In the process of cleaning the carpet, several mistakes might be made and a number of things could go wrong, leading to permanent damage of the carpet. Let us have a look at some of these mistakes.

Delayed action

A stitch in time saves nine, and this applies to carpet cleaning too. A carpet needs to be attended to immediately it becomes stained. This is because some stains, given time, will more than likely become permanent or very difficult to remove. Solutions that seep into the carpet's pile or padding may be acidic, such as sodas; these could eat away at the carpet.

Professional cleaning

Professional carpet cleaners are as qualified as they get. They do a great job of eliminating every stain to the detail and can work with any stain they come across. Most carpet manufacturers recommend that a professional clean the carpet once a year, but with a home with children and pets, cleaning should be done more frequently. However, not every stain requires the attention of a professional cleaner. As such, you don't need to call the cleaners every time you need some cleaning done as it could cut into your spending.

Wrong cleaner

Do not assume that normal household cleaners will work well for carpet cleaning. That is a recipe for disaster. Carpets only work well with spray carpet cleaners. The problem with laundry detergents and household cleaners is that they contain harsh chemicals and bleaching agents that could immediately discolor the carpet. It will be to your benefit to first conduct research about the best cleaning solutions before using them on your carpet.

Renting machines

Purchasing a good machine for carpet cleaning might be a bit costly, but renting is a cheaper alternative. There are a number of places where you can hire carpet cleaning machines. The discount chain location or the grocery store down the street may be good places from which to hire equipment, but they do not guarantee the desired service. In many cases, the equipment may not be serviced in between hires and you might very well be carrying someone's dirt into your home. They may also be in poor condition, preventing them from working properly. As such, avoid relying on rented machines whenever possible.

Deodorizing powder

When the desire for fresh scents takes the better part of you, you may be tempted to use deodorizing powder excessively during your carpet cleaning. However, deodorizing powder is not effective for cleaning and does not eliminate dirt. Worse yet, vacuum cleaners may not remove them completely, meaning the powder will likely accumulate and add to the pile of dirt over time. It is therefore advisable to use such powders sparingly.
