What To Wear On Dress Down Friday?
Can you dress down too far?
A common bonus that employees who work in private offices may get from time to time is what is known as 'dress down Friday'. This special day is when employees are allowed to ditch their suits and ties and instead wear what they like to work. This is a great way to reward employees in a way they shouldn't affect productivity too much and also gives employees a more relaxing day at the office.

While this is indeed a bit of fun and good for moral, it is also a bonus which may cause people much more stress than a normal day. When you wear a suit every day, you don't really need to think about what you're wearing as you always wear the same thing. But as soon as you have a dress down day you need to really think hard as to what is really meant by dress down. Should you just ditch your tie? Or should you turn up in your boxers?

Here are a few tips to make sure you don't make a terrible mistake:

Ask your colleagues

One way to make sure that you don't choose the wrong sort of clothes is to ask your colleagues what they will be wearing. They may have had a 'dress down day' at this business before and know what the etiquette is. Just be sure that you really trust the person you have asked or they may just convince you that shorts and t-shirt are acceptable when they are not.

Play it safe

The only really safe way to approach a 'dress down Friday' is to be conservative. If you wear a full suit and tie, maybe try losing the tie and be ready to remove your jacket if you think you can get away with it. It is always better to be slightly too smart than the opposite. You can always have some smart casual stuff like Two Stoned clothing or Penguin clothes in a bag to change into if you feel overdressed.

Go crazy

If you don't care too much about your job or if you think you can get away with it, just do what you want. Fancy dress might even be acceptable if others do it too and you could just get noticed for being innovative and a great 'team player' or a great 'morale booster' if you come as something everyone likes. Be careful with this though as it could all backfire.
