What Does Your Retirement Home Need?
I want a nice chair and some carpet…
We are all going to get old. When that happens we want to be as comfortable as possible. After all, is that not the whole point of life, to ensure that we are as comfortable as possible when we stop working? Or maybe you subscribe to the idea of screaming towards death in burned out husk of a body on a whim and a sarcastic prayer. Either way, you're going to need to live somewhere when you retire and it's nice to know that it will be set up properly so that you can have a nice life.

Here is a list compiled from conversations with a particularly old set of hell raisers who wish they had done some of these things to their retirement homes.

To Be Ground Floor Only

You can never really tell how your health is going to go as you get older. For this reason, it is important to always try and live somewhere that is all on one floor. There is nothing worse than feeling you can't even get to your bedroom, or half of your own house.

A Lift

If you have no choice but to live somewhere with more than one floor, or just if you really like having a nice view, you should make sure to get home lifts put in at the earliest opportunity. These domestic lifts allow you to step from your arm chair into your lift and out into your bedroom upstairs in two steps. Plus they're fun to use.

A Good Media System

One thing that deteriorates for everyone when they get older is their eyesight and hearing. To counter act this sad fact you should ensure that your retirement home has a good big and loud media system. This should include a hearing aid loop that goes round the whole house so you can have a conversation with anyone in any room, and should include a massive television with a big super surround sound speaker system…for obvious reasons. In the future this will be all tied into the internet too.

Extreme Insulation

You will feel the cold a lot more easily when you get older and you will have less money to splash on heating. So while you still can, invest in a great deal of insulating measures, such as stuff for the loft and double glazing. This will allow you to keep what heat you do produce inside.

What are you looking forward to about retirement?
