Disneyland Florida – for big kids too!
Visiting The Disneyland ant just for kids
I flew to Orlando Florida from Edinburgh in the summer of 1996 to visit Disneyland and I was not disappointed. I was staying in Kissimmee in Orlando which is not far from all the big parks. A lovely hotel with swimming pool and outside bar. Being America you were not short of things to do. Disneyland itself was absolutely fantastic – the Americans really know how to do things. If you have children or you are still a child at heart then this is the place for you. The rides are amazing as is the general landscape of the parks. Your every need is catered for in extra large doses!! Of course the fantastic weather makes it all the better. Not having to plan your day around the rain and carry extra jackets etc ,as we do in this country is a huge bonus. However when I was there in August it was prone to the most amazing lightning storms which were great if you were indoors but not so if you were caught out in it. The torrential rain was one thing but the huge forks of lightning were another!

You really need to spend all day maybe even two in each park to do it any justice. Be warned that the queues can be extremely long. However the park has set up loads of things to keep you entertained while you are waiting. The wait may be too long for very young children though.

The big rides are truly amazing with a host of technologies being utilised to make you feel you have actually been transported to a different place whether it be Space Mountain or Back to the Future. Bush gardens was a real favourite with not only a huge variety of wild animals but the rides here also are truly amazing including the Tangeneta Tidal wave –prepare to get very wet!! There are a huge variety of places to eat within the parks to suit every diet but be warned this is America and the portions are absolutely enormous!!

Night life is also extremely varied from a quite meal to live entertainment it's available at every corner. The Americans don't do much walking so you need to get a taxi most places. Obviously there are areas that you don't need to be in like downtown Orlando. The parks don't close at night they just come alive again and you can experience New Year's Eve every night of the week if you want to. The American people are extremely friendly and always willing to help. They may seem a little over the top at breakfast when you need some peace and quiet to recover from the night before!!

This summer I decided on a holiday cottage Scottish Borders. It was a great change and a self catering scottish Borders holiday is well recommended.
