Summer Vacation, Key West Style

Picking a destination vacation spot that the whole family will enjoy can be tough. One child might want to do something active, while another could be looking forward to doing as little as possible and relaxing. Parents, of course, want everyone to have fun, including themselves, but they also seem to have this one part of them that says, "It should at least be a little bit educational." For an island that is only about six square miles, it does an amazing job of having something for everyone. There are sandy stretches of beaches, perfect for relaxing with a good book, and there are hidden coves just begging to be explored. And unlike beaches back home, the water temperature is always just right.

Kids always balk when their parents tell them they have to do something educational on their vacation, but Key West manages to even make that fun. Where else can you hold a real gold bar, lost at sea for hundreds of years, in your hands? Or pet a live shark? Or walk among thousands of butterflies? Or tour a Civil War era fort with an ocean front view? These are just a few of the many different activities that make Key West one of the most popular island vacations in the world.

If there is anything that parents look forward to the least on vacation it is eating the same meals over and over again. Thankfully, there are over 300 Key West restaurants to choose from, ranging from funky waterfront dives to roof top restaurants featuring casual elegance with outdoor dining patios. Regardless of which restaurant you choose - and try as you might, you just will not have time to choose them all - you can be sure to have some of the freshest seafood in your life.
