Cool Fun In The Summertime In Key West, Florida

by Jack Terry

With so many different travel websites and social media apps, it is easy to plan a vacation right down to every little detail. Unfortunately, that is what most people feel like they have to do because they have so little time to travel together as a family. The first step in making those types of plans usually involves choosing tried and true locations. This summer, step out of the comfort zone a little and into a more comfortable destination by using all that computing power to see what is going on In Key West, Florida.

The first thing people notice is that when it comes to summertime weather in Florida, Key West is the place to be. Thanks to being out in the middle of the water and not surrounded by hundreds of square miles of overdevelopment, a typical summer day in Key West is usually ten degrees cooler than other well-known vacation destinations. Like any tropical island, there is always a chance for a little summer squall, but these ten minute rainfalls offer the perfect excuse to explore a museum or check out a gallery.

People do not just come down for the weather. They make their vacation plans because there is so much to do all summer long. Not that anyone ever accused Key West of needing a reason. It seems like the islanders always like to throw a party, and with such events to choose from including Key West Pride, Hemingway Days and Lobsterfest - not to mention several different fishing tournaments - there are reasons to visit the island every month.

It is not just special activities that are such a draw, either. Key West is home to world famous art galleries, Civil War era forts, museums celebrating the heritage of the island and the history of piracy and shipwreck exploration. There is the Butterfly Conservatory, the Aquarium, glass bottom boat tours and sunset cruises. During a summer vacation, the one thing all these activities have in common is no long lines. The lack of lines is a big draw to all of the Key West restaurants as well. Celebrated chefs from around the world make Key West their home, and they feature exciting menus that combine traditional methods of preparation with the fresh seafood and signature spices of the Caribbean.

Ask any of the residents who live there full time and they will tell you that summer is their favorite time of the year, because that is when it feels the most like home. Life moves at a slower pace, there are fewer crowds to worry about, and they get to enjoy all the wonderful things their island has to offer. Discover for yourself what makes summertime so special in Key West.
