Ideas For A Great Family History Activity
Have you ever thought about creating a scrapbook as a family history activity together with everyone? It seems that as people in general find themselves becoming busier and busier with various obligations in their lives, spending quality time with their families becomes more important and more difficult. It can be challenging finding an activity that everyone enjoys that also is meaningful. What you do as a family home evening activity is not as important as the fact that you are doing something. Take an evening walk together, eat dinner together and go around the table with each member sharing their best and worst parts of their day or their week. Watch a movie. Put a family journal, archive or a scrapbook together with each other, adding things every week that happened that should be remembered.
Unfortunately, many people do not remember that even though parents are busy with work and children are busy with school, clubs, sports and friends, it is the family that is at the core of everyones very being. Although it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep everyone bonded, making a deep time commitment in order to stay connected can decide the paths that children will take that will lead them through their entire lives.
When you are trying to spend more time together as a family, it can be a real chore trying to make it happen on a regular basis; the trick is to schedule a night every week for the family history activity, and no other plans are to be made a priority above family time. You have to make sure, however, that you do not choose a night when someone in the family already has something scheduled such as dance class or soccer practice. You also may not want to pick Fridays or Saturdays if your kids are older and enjoy going out with friends on those days.
Since this precious family history activity time is limited, every minute has to be about celebrating the family. No doubt that the activities will change as the children get older, but remember it is never too late or too early in the childrens lives to start a tradition of family home evening activities! Play dolls or action figures one night if your kids are still very young. Play a game the next week. If you have older children who love video games, have a night where all of you play video games together. It is important that you remember the main focus here it is not so much about what you do, it is about paving the way for a strong and trusting relationship by spending time together, whether you are taking part in a family history activity or playing video games.
