The Regeneration Kimono Dresses In Western Fashion

by Jamie Simpson

Japanese fashion has historically included wearing separate upper and lower garments. Later in Japanese fashion, the straight line method was created which involved cutting longer pieces of fabric and then sewing them into a long dress which was very similar to what we know the kimono to be today. Both men and women wore the kimono and bright colors were popular. Citizens of all statures wore the garment and even Samurai warriors wore brightly colored kimonos to represent the colors of their leaders.

Kimono creation has always been an art form in Japan and the original kimono dress is a valuable item of clothing. The original style of the dress was so revered that they became heirlooms during the years of 1868 and 1912. Over the years, as the Japanese became more influenced by the west and other cultures, they adopted a more traditional western style of dress. With more people embracing the western style of dressing, the less they wore traditional garments like the kimono. Today, kimonos may only be worn by some to mark special occasions.

The kimono has always been worn to mark a celebratory event and is often designed to match a particular season and occasion. In traditional Japan, when a baby girl is born, she is dressed in a white undergarment and a brightly colored kimono. Boys are often dressed in a black kimono adorned with the family crest. There are numerous styles of kimonos, with the most popular having the characteristic elongated sleeves that reach the waist and a length just above the ankles. Kimonos were traditionally made from a variety of silk fabrics. Less expensive kimonos are often made out of cotton and polyester.

The Japanese kimono has been regenerated and is now a part of western fashion. There are many styles of dresses and blouses that have been inspired by the traditional kimono design. Japanese fashion as a whole encompasses interesting and intricate designs and colors. The look is elegant and is a blend of the traditional Japanese style of dressing and more contemporary and modern styles. The modern day kimono has become a fashion favorite because it is comfortable and easy to wear. Thanks to the advancement and popularity of the internet, there is more access to information about the styles of dress throughout the globe. Additionally, the online shopping platform allows individuals to purchase traditional cultural fashions such as the kimono and integrate it with a more modern style of dress. The reinvented kimono will be a wardrobe staple for Spring and Summer. The beautifully vibrant colors of the dresses will compliment the current trend in shoes and accessories. The dress can be dressed up with heels or strappy sandals as well as dressed down with a pair of jeans. The generous sizing of the kimono dress will make it a hit for those of all shapes and sizes.
