by Gail Leino

Throw a simple, yet elegant Mother's Day invitations, party supplies, and decorations. Mother's Day provides children an opportunity to show appreciation and love to their mothers.

Mother's Day Invitations: Mother's Day invitations come in numerous styles, colors, and sizes so choose appropriate Mother's Day invitations that reflect the theme of the party. For example, a Mother's Day garden-themed party should include invitations emblazoned with the image of flowers such as Irises, Carnations, Tulips, and Roses. It is important to include the necessary information such as date and special directions if needed.

Mother's Day Party Supplies and Decorations: Keep party supplies and decorations simple. Use a variety of flowers, including Mom's favorite, to include in a table centerpiece, flower garland or a cherry blossom display (which can be handmade). Butterfly lanterns are also easily made. also, use lavender, pastel colored tableware items such as lavender, pink, light yellow, and light green.

Fresh flowers are lovely but do not have a long life span. For decorative purposes, select silk flowers to place in the party area. Scatter faux flower peddles on the dinner table on top of a light green tablecloth.

Mother's Day Food: When it comes to Mother's Day party food, personal taste and preference play a very important role. For those who are throwing a Mother's day party in which other mothers are invited to, include a wide variety of foods to ensure every mother can enjoy at least one item on the menu. Choose a plethora of pies, crepes, cookies, scones, and cakes. Main dishes can include light salads, pastas, and various finger sandwiches.

Mother's Day Party Games: Photo-Matching Game challenges children to bring in pictures of mothers that show them as babies or very young children. Place the pictures on a poster board and have children guess and see who the mothers are. Write a corresponding number beneath each photo. Hand out separate sheets of paper to the children and have them write down the names of the mothers next to each number. The player who correctly identifies the greatest number of moms featured in the photos wins.
