Time for A Breath of Fresh Air
You probably know that fresh air is vital for good health. It is however, very unlikely that you breathe fresh air; considering that you spend most of your time in enclosed rooms in your offices and homes. When you breathe stale air, in such enclosed environments, you increase your chances of health problems. Breathing problems, fatigue and other discomforts are often reported by people who live or work in such environments. Every day, thousands all over the world suffer from indoor air poisoning. So, what can you do about it? How can you ensure that you breathe fresh air? Well, even in our purely practical world, following a few guidelines will ensure that you breathe in good health.
Inside homes and offices, air-conditioning, carpets, upholstery, wallpapers and dust, all make the air stale and toxic. Don’t let that AC seal your room completely. Remember that sealing your room entirely means bidding goodbye to good health. The air here, in most cases will be stale and devoid of energy giving oxygen. Whenever the AC is switched off, open the windows and let in fresh air. If you live or work in a building where windows are sealed, make sure you get outside every few hours.
Although dewy and perfect looking artificial plants are available in the market, don’t beautify your house or office with them. They provide no real value. Instead, have indoor plants throughout your house and in your workplace. Many houseplants are able to extract volatile organic chemicals from the air and filter out toxins, apart from also providing a constant source of oxygen. Keep your immediate surroundings free of mold spores, odors, pet dander, allergens and cigarette smoke. Upholstery, heavy curtains and stuffed toys collect dirt easily and become breeding ground for dust mites. It is well known that dust induces allergy. Hence, keep your house clean and well ventilated.
If you feel that the city air is too polluted, take a drive in the countryside. Breathe in the fresh air and see how it de-stresses you. Fresh air improves lung functioning, lowers body temperature and enhances brain activity. When you visit beaches waterfalls and mountains, the fresh air rejuvenates and energizes your body and mind. Be conscious of the quality of air you breathe. Remember - your life span and vulnerability to diseases depend on the air you breathe now.
