Sooner or later, most people who use airline transporteration are going to need the services of an airport taxi. There are two ways to do this. You can reserve a care beforehand or you can take one of the cabs lined up outside most major airports. In either case there are a number of questions you will need to ask so that you can avoid getting ripped off.

Q: Do you operate 24 hours?

A: In the event of a flight delay you do not want to be standing in the airport at 2am with no transportation.

Q: What are your rates?

A: Taxi meter rates are decided by the city in which the taxi operates. Reserved cars should give you their flat rate.

Q: What is included in the rate?

A: Some possible extra or “hidden” charges might include surcharges for gas/fuel, time of day, “extra” passenger, extra stops, lateness/tardiness by the customer, or itinerary changes or tolls.

Q: Does your taxi cab provide baby seats?

A: If you are traveling with a child, it might be wise to make a reservation ahead and mention the age and weight of child. There is usually an extra charge for each baby seat requested.

Q: What is the best way to avoid a no show?

A: Always reconfirm your ride on the day of your travel and confirm that your phone number is correct.

Q: Do you offer student, senior citizen or any other discounts?

A: If you have a choice, go with the discount if all things are otherwise equal.

Q: What is the tipping/gratuity policy?

A: Some companies have a required tip percentage that they add to your bill. Find out so that you avoid tipping twice or not at all.

Q: What are the fees/policies for rescheduling or changing itinerary details?

A: You need to know what you will lose if you need to change your plans.

Q: What is the Cancellation/Refund Policy?

A: Whether you need to change your plans or cancel altogether, knowing your options can avoid unnecessary charges.

Q: What types of vehicles are used for my transportation?

A: Know what vehicle you will be getting ahead of time will insure everyone on your party fits in the car.

Q: Can you call me to remind me of my pickup?

A: If you are likely to be harried and running late, this will serve as an “alarm clock."
