Learn How To Hypnotise Someone Instantly

by Crispian Jones

If you want to Learn how to hypnotise someone instantly you will require a fundamental understanding of the human psyche (including the "fight or flight" response and the notion of "psychic shock" ) and most assuredly some hypnosis experience. But primarily it demands absolute confidence from the hypnotist. In other words the person doing the induction must simply expect (have the 'mind set') that the person being hypnotised will "go in". Let's begin by talking a bit about induction in general, and then we will come back to the topic of instant inductions.

The Process of Induction

The first step in hypnosis is to have what could be called a "pre-talk" with your hypnotic subject, where you build rapport or belief in the subject and discuss goals and establish "expectancy". Whether doing street hypnosis or clinical hypnosis, this remains the constant although the content of the pre-talk will of necessity be different, according to context. Once you have a "plan", created expectancy and have built belief in the subject who will therefore by now be feeling comfortable with you, then it is time to induce them into the hypnotic trance so that you can begin to impart suggestions or have some fun, again depending on the context. There are many induction methods to choose from and this is one area where each hypnotist will develop their own induction style. Here we will very briefly overview some induction styles and then focus a bit on instant inductions.

How to Hypnotise Someone- Choosing an Induction Technique

There are a variety of ways that you can induce hypnosis in your subjects. Perhaps the most well known "classic" way is through eye fixation. Pioneered by psychologist James Braid, this is the classic style that you see in old movies and television where the hypnotist waves a gold pocket watch or other shiny object in front of a person to induce trance or the subject is asked to fix their focus on a spot on the wall or ceiling. This same type of visualization is used by people in meditation to focus attention and clear the conscious mind of thought. This can be an effective way to ease a person into hypnosis.

Some hypnotists use relaxation techniques ( e.g. a Progressive Muscle Relaxation - PMR) to lead their subject into trance. This often includes guiding the hypnotic subject through a series of relaxation techniques designed to relax every part of their body, usually working from the head and going all the way down to the toes. As the person relaxes physically they relax mentally and the hypnotist is able to guide them into a hypnotic state. In the clinical setting this takes far too long as then the therapist has then only a few minutes in which to do the "work" assuming a 55 minute consult because the PMR can take up to half an hour to get a person into hypnosis. The same time issue applies to street and stage hypnosis.

Yet another way to induce trance is to use visualizations. This can involve the hypnotherapist having a person close their eyes and then walking them through a detailed visualization designed to focus their mind internally and thus ignore the outside world as their focus intensifies and becomes totally invloved with the visualisation.

There is another very useful style of induction called "rapid inductions" and perhaps the most well known of these is called the "Elman Induction" (developed by Dave Elman, a brilliant hypnotist). This typically and can take anything from 3 - 10 minutes depending on delivery style, and a person will go into a deeply focused state of concentration which is essentially what the hypnotic state is.

How to Hypnotise Someone Instantly - The Instant Induction

Some, most, experienced hypnotherapists prefer to forgo the lengthy visualization and relaxation techniques and have mastered the ability to put their hypnosis subjects into an instant trance. With an instant induction the hypnotherapist is able to use shock-like techniques to send a subject instantly into a deep state of hypnosis. This technique requires the most confidence, good training and experience and is not something that can be done successfully by a novice. With instant inductions you literally shock the nervous system in some way, and then utter a brisk command, for example, you might say "Sleep!" or "Relax!". There several "types" of Instant inductions which include the "hand shake induction", the arm drop, the hand pull' the finger snap" and so. Whilst the technique may vary, they all rely on the same "psychic shock" principle.

Beyond the Induction

An induction is an essential part of the overall hypnotic session. Properly preparing your subject in advance with the pre-talk, then putting them into a deep trance as quickly and easily as possible lays the groundwork for an effective hypnosis session. However, learning to perform the instant induction takes time, practice, experience and training with an experienced hypnotherapist. Once the subject is in hypnosis then the "work" such as in a clinical setting, or the "play" such as in street or stage hypnosis, can begin.
