Gratitude Can Enrich Your Blended Family

How Gratitude Enriches Your Blended Family

by Emily Bouchard

"A single grateful thought raised to heaven is the most perfect prayer." - Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

Taking on an attitude of gratitude can do wonders for your personal relationships and your family! One of the biggest "diseases of attitude" is groaning. When you moan, you are not only focusing on what is wrong, you are also making sure everyone else around you is focusing on what is wrong too. Unfortunately, by complaining, you are only adding to the problem.

By shifting your focus to what is good in all problems -- you will soon discover that all events are essentially neutral and it is your attitude that determines whether or not something negative has transpired.

So, next time you find yourself displeased in the way a situation was handled educate yourself from what happened and decide if something can be done differently in the future. Stretch yourself and think of how it would be if you were grateful that the problem turned out the way it did. See if you can think that you are "freed" from something much worse. Let yourself to genuinely feel grateful for the experience and all it brought you - see if you could locate the good thing in it for you.

At the last hour of every single day, I review what happened in my day and think of ways to get ready for the next day. A section of the days review is where I feel gratitude for the blessings I received perhaps in the form of an unexpected phone call from a vision team member; perhaps a string of book orders; or possibly an email from a person I touched with my newsletter. These things remind me about what I do and why I do it. By adjoining with the blessings that I had to do with, I get refueled for the next days agenda. May you feel the same way too!
