Taking A Family Holiday In Ireland

by Tony McBride

When traveling as a family, especially with young children, it can be difficult to find places and activities that would be enjoyable for the whole family. For either fast-paced or relaxing family holidays, Ireland has a lot to offer that can keep the children entertained or busy so that the family holidays can be enjoyable overall.

Ireland is a friendly country, so the whole family will always be welcome. No matter the age of your children, there are several places and activities to consider for family holidays in Ireland.

- The beach. Ireland is an island, so it is certainly not lacking in coastline or beaches. Some of the safest beaches can be found in bays, but there are beaches located throughout the coastline. Some beaches are more populated than others, some more natural. Ireland's beaches offer fun or relaxation for the whole family.

- Castles. For most children, going inside a real castle is an exciting event. To this end, different castles offer different levels of entertainment for children. The Trim Castle, for example, is impressive to see up close. Many castles also organize fairs and reenactments, and Bunratty Castle in particular offers Medieval Banquets to tourists. These banquets are fun for children who like castles, legends, and knights.

- Family breaks. There are some available services that offer to look after the children for the day and provide them with fun activities while the parents get some much-needed time for themselves. The availability of this service depends on your holiday location and specific hotel.

- Fota Wildlife Park. If your children like animals, a visit to this large zoo can be an enjoyable family activity. Wild animals such as lemurs, monkeys, kangaroos, and capibaras roam free in this wildlife park, and they may even interact with you or your family. Most children will enjoy seeing the exotic animals and even petting them.

- Rent a car. If you drive yourselves, you can control your schedule to account for different family members' moods and whims.

- Stay in a Bed and Breakfast. B&Bs are a more friendly, personalized option than hotels. This level of personalization can be great when traveling with a family because you can receive custom recommendations for places to go and things to do.

- Children are welcome in pubs. It is common to find entire families in pubs in Ireland, so don't hesitate to bring your children for a chance to relax, eat, and drink in a friendly environment that will often have live music.

For family holidays, Ireland has a lot of family-friendly sights and activities to choose from. There are of course several extra considerations that must be taken into account when traveling as a family, but a visit to the beautiful, culturally rich country of Ireland is well worth it.
