When your dog behaves well in a training session, reward him in a calm manner. If your pet successfully completes a task, then reward him only if he/she is calm. If you get excited, the dog will become excited and everything will be out of control. Maintain a calm atmosphere and provide an appropriate reward.

It is important to avoid dwelling on one task for too long. Your dog is going to get bored doing the same thing over and over. Try to keep the initial sessions limited to about 10 minutes.

Consistency is key in crate training a puppy. Whenever you let your puppy out of the crate, he must be given the immediate chance to go potty. In time, the dog will have the ability to exercise restraint when it comes to nature's call.

When attempting to house train your pup, keep in mind that whatever goes in, must go out. Feed your pooch several times daily at the same hour. This will get your dog into a solid routine for bathroom breaks.

As your dog responds to his training, you can begin to allow him more freedom. The balance between freedom and obedience is a rewarding one. Don't be too lenient all of the sudden though, as this can have a negative effect.

When you are trying to house train a puppy, it is not going to learn overnight, so be prepared. If your puppy has an accident, clean it up straight away. Smells from urine and feces can linger in a carpet and attract your pet to return to the same spot for elimination. Many pet stores or big box stores sell products that help to eliminate the odors from pet accidents.

Always get your dog's attention the same way. Try to use the dog's name in the start of the command. This will get his attention so he knows to follow the command. Dogs quickly recognize their name which allows you to get their attention.

Do you have a dog that pulls? A lot of owners have to deal with this problem, but the solution is quite simple. A good harness can stop the problem dead in its tracks.

Avoid accidents when potty training your dog. Be able to tell when your dog has to go out. If your dog is pacing or whining, you need to take them outside. When this happens, take action immediately. Get his leash as you take him out. Give him praise for his behavior. They will eventually ask to go outside.

To get your dog to stop barking, train him to obey a command that tell him to stay quiet. Every time he barks, tell them the silent order and then treat him. Then, you reward them with a treat. If this is done with sufficient frequency, the dog is sure to associate treats with the command to be silent.

Now that you understand how to deal with your puppy, the time has come to apply the above tips. Exercise patience with the dog and be certain to praise proper behavior. It takes time, but the reward of an obedient pet is well worth the wait.
