The ability to sell is probably one of the must fundamental skill that any entrepreneur must have.
The best business plan, business model and marketing plan will not help if you are unable to close a sale. There any many literatures on the subject of selling but here, I would just like to highlight some tips that may help you to start quickly on selling your product and services.
Have a Selling Strategy - Before selling anything, you must have a unique selling proposition. Why does the prospect need or want to buy your product and services? Why does anyone would even want to listen to you? If can answer these two questions, you have a unique selling proposition. Create a Good Marketing Tool - Make a list of all the things you need to present to the prospect before the prospect says YES. With testing and experience, you will learn which marketing materials will work for you. Make a Great First Impression - First impression lasts so you must make sure it is a good one. When receiving a phone call, make sure you speak in a professional manner. Invest in a voice message system so that your company continue to take calls from prospects even when you are not in office. Make it Easy for the Prospect to buy from you - Provide various avenues to allow a prospect to reach you, to get information about your products and services and to purchase them. Make it easy for the prospect to buy from you once the prospect makes a decision. Provide as many mode of payments as you can especially the use of a credit card. Focus your Sales Targets - Do not spread yourself thin by approaching too large and varied group of people. Focus on a target audience that presents a higher chance of closing the sale. Follow up on your Prospects - When you market your product and services on a trade show, a TV ad, the newspaper or a seminar and you get a whole list of leads, follow up on them closely. If they have provide you their names in the first place, chances are they are interested in your product or services. Helping people makes for Good Business - The more people you help, the more money will come into your pocket. For most great companies, their business philosophy has to do with helping people. The profits is just a side effect. Provide working Samples - Your prospects will more likely to purchase your product if they have tried the product first. Offer a Money Back Guarantee - Your customer will be assured that if the product does not turn out to be what they expected, they can always get back their money. With this guarantee, there is a much higher chance for you to close the sale. In the end, when all else are equal, great customer service is the single determining factor that can set you apart from your competitors.
A simple thank you, remembering their birthdays, wishing your customers or prospects well on their important days of celebration will go a long way in helping your customer remember you, will more likely purchase something from you and will tell all their friends and family about you.
