Setting the Right Price

by Arman Rahman

Setting the price for your product and services is one of the biggest challenge for a Home Business entrepreneur. In addition to the overheads of doing business, you will also need to price the effort that you have put into the end product. If you price your product and services too high, the customer may not purchase them. If you price them to low, customers may view the product as of inferior quality and still not buy them. In some cases, the more you increase the price, the more people will buy.

These are some tips on how to price your product and services.

Check your Competitors - If there are other businesses offering the same product and services as yours, checking on how they price their product would give you a good idea on how to price your own product and services. Decide whether the price is enough to cover your overheads and any other indirect costs and still turn out a good profit. This requires a detailed study into your business model, processes, direct and indirect costs. Be Flexible - When deciding on a price, offer some sort of flexibility if possible. For example, a customer do not need certain items in your quotation and would like the items remove from the quotation with a reduction in total pricing. If the removal of the items constitute savings for you, it would probably be a good idea to pass that savings to the customer. Once you have gained the customer's confidence, you can always gain more from future sales. It is always a good idea to have a written contract or agreement with your customers. This will help you to avoid misunderstanding in future. If your product and services comes with a minimum period contract, have it in writing in the agreement. If the prices are subjected to taxes, include those clauses as well. If there are penalties for late payments, include the details in the agreement.
