How to Adapt Your CV for A Job Application
Make yourself as attractive as possible…
With unemployment in the UK at one of its highest levels for decades, getting a job in a specific field can be really quite difficult. Even in a more favourable environment getting a job in your perfect position can be very difficult and now with such increase in competition you really do have a tough job on your hands. One option you may want to consider is changing fields entirely.

What you may think is that you have even less of a chance at getting a job in a different field as all your experience is in one area, but if you break down your skillset into its component parts it is often quite easy to find jobs in different sectors that you are perfectly qualified.

So how do you adapt your CV to suit the job application?

Break Down Your Skills

As mention above you first need to break down your skill set. For instance, if you have been working in hospitality you may be able to show that you have enough skills to get a job in an office. Office jobs require you to have the ability to work with computers, communicate with people and work to tight deadlines. You might explain in your CV that you use a computer to place orders for food or to manage room allocation, that you have to communicate with all kinds of customers as well as chefs and that you have extremely tight turn around schedules for tables or rooms in a hotel that you are an active part of. Almost any set of skills you have can be transferred to another role with a bit of explanation and by breaking your job into its component parts.

Make It Look Right

Some jobs require a more interesting lay out for your CV. If you are moving from a financial job, which normally demands a very professional looking CV, to one working in a more creative role, you may want to add some extra dimensions to your career change CV. By adding a more elaborate graphic to your CV you can show your creative skills while still looking professional. The reverse is also true so whatever the job, try and get your CV to look suitable for whatever your career change ideas.

Try Not To Look Over Qualified

Sometimes, depending on how desperate you are, you may be tempted to go for a job you are over qualified for. In this situation it is best to cut a few things out of your CV so that you don't look too qualified. Employers don't like hiring over qualified people as they are often more likely to leave when something better comes along.
