What Do Your Work Shoes Say About You?

Shoes maketh the man…

by Sam Qam

No matter what you do for a living the shoes you wear may have a great bearing on how people treat you. The thing about shoes is that they bear the full brunt of our day and yet can be largely forgotten about all the way down there on the floor so can reveal something about us that we may not have meant to. Plus even when jobs may have a strict shoe type policy, the condition of the shoes may say something too.

So what do your shoes say about you?

Smart Office Shoes

People who work in offices, schools, law firms and services generally have to wear smart shoes to work. Having your smart shoes clean and polished will give people the impression that you take your job seriously and that you take pride in what you do. If though you allow you work shoes to get scuffed and don't spruce them up it may suggest that you have lost interest in what you are doing and are just going through the motions. It is very easy to let your shoes get like this though just through being busy so this is not always the case, though it may still give people that impression so be careful if you are keen to appear professional.

Scruffy Work Shoes

There are many jobs where you can get away with having any kind of scruffy shoes or Dr Martens boots and not raise any eyebrows. Generally if you work outdoors or on a building site or in a factory you will be expected to have shoes that show just how hard you are working. If however you keep your Fly London shoes very clean and polished they may be in danger of looking out of place. This could give people the impression that you consider yourself above the role and may even alienate you from your colleagues, even if you just like to keep your shoes nice.

Designer

Those in PR, marketing, sales and other image conscious professions may be most likely to wear designer shoes for work. This gives off an image of success and power which may well help them to make a sale or similar as people feel like they can get a some of their designer spirit by buying or connecting with the wearer of the shoes, as subconscious as this might be.

No matter how little you think about what your shoes are like, you cannot avoid the fact that some people may still read something about you from them, so be warned.
