Specialties To Make Your Marketing Rock
promotional advertising specialties
I was once working with this business that was an event space. They did private events like corporate parties, small concerts and various special events. But by far the bread and butter was wedding receptions. So, part of my job was marketing and a big part of that was attending bridal fairs. They were okay as I’m a pretty chatty guy, so I enjoyed shooting the breeze with the people. But, by far my favorite fair was not of the bridal nature, but rather mistakenly a general business fair. We really received no business that day, although I was invited to the local bar by a lady who promised me she was a regular. But, the reason that this particular fair was my favorite was because directly across from me was a stand for Franklin Plumbing.
This guy running the stand, I can’t possibly do him justice. He dressed like (his words) “Honest” Ben Franklin and he passed out fake dollar bills redeemable for a Franklin discount. He had the tri-point hat, the spectacles, the jacket, knickers and buckle shoes; it seemed the only thing he didn’t have was shame. I loved the guy.
However, somewhere between his kissing babies and clear madness this guy ended up handing out hundreds of fake dollar bills with his company’s name and number and probably a hilarious picture of him in his suit. I watched in combined dismay and awe at his utilization of promotional advertising specialties.
Using those bills, as advertising specialties, probably distributed knowledge of his company well beyond the people that stopped to watch his routine. This is an example of the power of promotional advertising products. Its not who the initial direct person is that gets the pen, shirt, hat or fake dollar bill, it’s all the other people that are given the product or randomly pick up or see it. Not everyone will cash in “Honest” Ben Franklin’s bills, but numerous people will see the logo and record the name of the company. And just maybe, the next time their plumbing’s on the fritz, they just might give ol’ “Honest” Ben a call.
