IVF Treatment Step By Step

In July 25, 1978, the first test-tube baby was delivered. Her name is Louise Joy Brown from Great Britain. Her mother had a blocked fallopian tube and her parents were unable to conceive after nine years of marriage. Back then, in vitro fertilization was still in its experimental stage, developed by Patrick Steptoe and Robert Edwards. They were awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010. Louise had a sister, Natalie, who was born in May 1999. She too was conceived via IVF and was the 40th baby to be born using this procedure. As of 2012, there have been five million babies born out of IVF worldwide.
Basically, a test-tube baby is one who is conceived outside the body. This is actually what in vitro means. The sperm of the man and the eggs of a woman meet in a laboratory dish, thus the argument about Louise being a test tube baby as she was conceived in a Petri dish. Nevertheless, proper terminology notwithstanding, the point is to help couples have their own baby with the help of science. The most crucial aspect of in vitro fertilization is the embryo transfert. The success of the IVF cycles rests on this stage as this is where the embryo will fully develop to become a baby.
Of course, the rest of the stages are equally important. This includes the ovulation, removal of the eggs, fertilization and insemination as well as embryo culture. But all these will be useless of the embryo does not stick to the woman's womb. There have been many cases when IVF failed. If properly analyzed, failure can be attributed to the following: patient selection, stimulation protocols, egg and embryo factors, immune factors, sperm factors and laboratory factors. But not all factors will be the cause, it can only be one or a combination of those mentioned above.
In order for a woman to have her own tüp bebek, she has to start early. The younger the woman is, the higher her chances of success. Here is the list of the success rate per age bracket:
Under 35 years old: 41%-43%
Women 35-37 years old: 33%-36%
Women 38-40 years old: 23%-27%
Women over 41 years old: 13%-18%
But you should not be discouraged if you are significantly older. A lot of women have gone through three cycles of IVF treatment before it resulted in a live birth. Some were even blessed more as they actually had more than one baby as some had twins and triplets, even. Essentially, when it comes to IVF and having a test-tube baby, the couple has to be committed and give their all to it. They need to invest their time, emotions and money because it is quite costly, physically, mentally and financially. The costs of the fertility medication, anesthesia and blood tests, ultrasound and processing of sperm and eggs, and the rest quickly add up. Sadly, most insurance companies do not cover fertility treatments so it will have to be an out of pocket cost for the couple.
