How To Fix Your Slow Computer

by Gina Clark

Computers can be wonderful, but when they run slowly and don’t do what they are supposed to, they can turn into a frustrating nightmare. Here are some tips to improve your computer performance if it is not running the way you would like.

First, restart your computer. Sometimes that’s all your computer needs to start running better.

If you use Windows as your browser, make sure that updates are automatic. This will keep your computer performance high and maintain a faster speed. To update Windows automatically, go to the Start Menu, Control Panel and “Windows Update.” Here you can check to have Automatic Updates.

Viruses, spyware and adware are all reasons that computers slow down and stop working properly. If you have any of these on your computer, any personal information you have typed could potentially be jeopardized. It’s imperative that you determine if you have a computer virus, spyware or adware immediately and that you remove them.

Uninstall any programs that you are no longer using. Most likely, there are many programs on your computer that you no longer need, and removing them will improve the computer performance and speed. Go to the Start Menu, Control Panel, and Add or Remove Programs. Here there is a list of programs and you choose the programs that you are not using anymore. (It’s very important that you don’t remove programs that you don’t know what they are, because they may be necessary for your PC to work properly.)

Over time, computers get errors on their disks. To eliminate these errors from your computer, you need to defragment it. You can do this by going to My Computer on the Start Menu, and then right clicking your mouse on the C drive. Open Properties and Tools. Here you can check for errors. If any are found, click here on Defragment. This should be done every month.

Try these tips to improve your computer performance and speed. Then, perform these tasks regularly to maintain your computer’s improvements.
