why not...
was excited to get on with it so in 1987 upon graduation I was shipped to Lackland Air Force base to start my basic training. I was shipped down with many other recruits from Denver and many Air Force brats. They told me the horrors of basic training, the demand and mind games they played. They told me it was tough and there is a ribbon awarded called Honor Graduate. I told them I would get that, they laughed at me. We took our last bus trip of freedom and spent 6 weeks of psychological games. I received Honor Graduate and blew the minds of those who laughed. I was then sent DDA (Direct Duty Assignment) to Offutt AFB, NE. Now being a bit dyslexic and requesting International duty I thought I was going to the Netherlands. Fact is I was headed to Omaha, Nebraska where I would become part of the Prime Beef Team of Civil Engineers. I was not to go to school as stated but sent to a base where they were in need of Civil Engineers aka (working in boiler rooms), which to me is in the mechanical area and not electronics. I was given a ton of manuals and told I was receiving OJT (On the job Training). I could not believe not I was played by my recruiter and sent a state away to farmland. I would not live the dream of “Top Gun” working with jets, nor would I see Avionics or electronics…instead I would be caulking officer’s swimming pools, changing A/C filters and painting boiler rooms. I was horrified!!! I could not believe it and became a thorn in the side of the US Air Force and Offutt AFB, I thought my next four years would be wasted hell, however I was the start on a path that would change my life forever…
MyIn my first year in Omaha I ran across a guy who told me about this big event he went to. He said people were making all kinds of money and I had always wanted to make money so he caught my attention. He invited me over to his house for dinner and at that point he showed me Amway. Now I was not familiar with Amway other than when I was a kid my aunt was in it and it was a soap sales business. I brought that up and he said no, Amway is an umbrella company. He sold me on the idea that over 500 companies were in this program. I decided to give it a go, I actually had to take out a loan for around $400 to purchase the kit and tools and I was scared to death. Four-Hundred dollars seemed like a lot of money. I jumped in with all my gusto and my “low self-image” and began to talk to people about this MLM company. Now I will tell you clearly that Amway changed my life, not financially but mentally. I could tell you the stories of getting screwed by the upline and the greed, but why focus on that. The thing that changed me was reading the books, listening to the self-help tapes and going to the seminars. I finally found something that interested me. The speakers would make me laugh, cry and believe in myself. The books and tapes told me how great I was and I had never believed that. I was in Amway for five years and never really made money, however I spent about $30,000 in seminars, books and tapes making someone richer. I however started to believe in myself and speak in front of crowds. I found I loved to make people laugh and move them with stories. I decided I wanted to speak to people and Amway was the reason.
