Kensington is a district of west and central London. It is part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea which is an affluent and densely populated area. Kensington High Street is known for its upmarket shops and in 2005 the street was declared London's second best shopping street in the whole of London.
The area is known for its many attractions and institutes which include Kensington Palace which is set in Kensington Gardens where the late Princess Diana lived until her untimely death in 1997. Many other Princesses lived here including Princess Margaret and Princess Alice. Today you can go and visit the State Rooms which are open to the public for some periods of the year.
The Royal Albert Hall is one of the most treasured buildings in the capital and is recognisable all over the world. The concert hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871 and since then has seen some of the world's leading artists from every kind of performance genre. Opposite the Royal Albert Hall is the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park which was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her husband Prince Albert. It is quite an impressive site as it is designed in the Gothic Revival style.
Hyde Park its self is one of the largest parks in central London and it has become famous for its Speakers corner where lots of mass demonstrations take place. The Princess of Wales memorial is found at the south of the park which is an oval stone ring fountain which opened in 2004. Other memorial s in Hyde Park include the Holocaust memorial and 52 steel pillars for those that died in the 7/7 terrorist attacks.
There are plenty of Bars, clubs and restaurants' in Kensington so anyone visiting will be spoilt for choice. The Aubrey is a boutique hotel with something for everytone looking for liquid indulgence. Cocktails take centre stage as do the list of champagnes on offer.#
