The Bible – The Ultimate Embodiment of the Christian Truth

by Ross Carne

It is truly said that popularity is often clouded by controversies. The ultimate beholder of the word of God is also no exception. The Bible has its own share of controversies as the authenticity of this scripture has time and now being questioned. The Bible is often quoted as the God’s word but it is not God who has physically written it. Rather, it is believed that God worked through the common mass and the recordings were written down which came to be accepted as The Bible.

In modern times, the truth of the scripture is being put to test. The controversies are primarily due to the recordings of miraculous events. For example it is seen in the Old Testament that God parts the Red Sea therefore allowing his disciples to pass safely and save themselves from the hands of the angry Egyptians. On the other hand there is the Book of Joshua where the sun is said to have stood still. These miraculous events do not find a place of authenticity in today’s materialistic world. Hence, questions do arise on the very stepping stone of Christian truth.

As pointed out earlier, the truth of the Scripture has been questioned in earlier times. But there is a puzzle here. Many point out that to question the truth, it is important to know the truth first. Believers of the Christian truth have pointed out that put in simple terms, truth is what has a proof in reality and the great scripture do make some realistic claims for example the existence of God and His mode of communicating with us through our conscience and the holy scripture. The Son of God was supposed to be God in flesh and that He was the Savior the human race (John 14:6). To believers in the Christian truth, the claims of the Bible have a base in reality and therefore it is true.

Moreover, there are enough evidences to point out the sanctity of the truth of scripture. There is enough physical evidence in history to prove that the Holy Scripture, the holder of the Christian truth has been transmitted accurately through ages. Minor differences in the manuscripts known as variants are found but none of them is strong enough to change or affect the Christian truth or beliefs. Archaeological finds are also there to support the Christian scripture. The Archaeological Study Bible underlines many instances which points out how archaeology has proved that the Bible corresponds to historical reality. An inner belief and coherence also works apart from this.

Interestingly enough, it is Jesus Christ Himself who proves the truth of scripture. It can be proved that the four Gospels - Mark, Matthew, Luke and John presents an accurate picture of the life of Jesus and His Ministry. Jesus Himself therefore becomes the greatest supporter of the truth of this scripture. As in His own words about the word of God Jesus says: “the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35, NIV) thus proving the authenticity of the Bible. Jess believed that God chose to communicate with mankind through the Bible and that the Christian truth stated in it is the supreme and most authoritative. The controversy might never end but what counts to be important here is our belief. According to liberal theologians, our point of view is always not important. What matters ultimately is whether we still derive strength from the Holy Scripture which is an embodiment of the ultimate Christian truth.
