Feeding Time: Healthy Food For Your Baby

by William Jason

Watching your baby grow is one of the most joyous things you'll ever do. But to make sure that they grow up properly, you can't just sit around watching them. You have to have an active role in their growth and feeding time is one of the things you can take note of. Before your baby can get around to actually eating his meals just by himself, he will start out by trying out various things.

That's why around the time your baby is capable of holding food in his hands, you should give him a number of things to try around so he can get used to eating on his own. Since healthy food is imperative, here are some of the food you can give your little one to get started on:

- Bananas - bananas are very easy to hold so your baby should not have any trouble holding bite-size pieces in his little hands.

- Cooked peas - peas are one of the easiest vegetables to prepare so this is a win-win situation for you if you feed your baby peas. Aside from not giving you any trouble to prepare, peas are small enough that your child can easily pick them off one by one on their plates. The mushy consistency also offers easy chewing.

- Baby cookies - there are specially-made cookies for babies you can check out in the grocery. Made from vegetables as well, these healthy snacks are tasty and easily soften with baby's saliva so they are easy to eat. Even those without teeth yet can enjoy baby cookies.

- Peaches - peaches can be quite messy to eat but children love them for their delicious taste. Give your baby the whole fruit so he has a bit of exploring to do as he digs in into the fleshy fruit.

- Shredded chicken - chicken is a good source of protein and doesn't contain as much fat as pork and beef so it is ideal. It also doesn't hurt that chicken is very easy to chew. Still, chicken can be a little hard to chew for smaller children so as a rule, the younger your baby is, the smaller the chicken pieces should be.

- Cheese - cheese is a good source of calcium you can turn to aside from milk. Just make sure to cut up the cheese into very small bits to allow for easier chewing. Give your baby different kinds of cheese from time to time and you can have a little gourmand in the making.

Whatever you feed your baby, the idea is to let your baby explore and eat as many kinds of food to get his little tummy used to various meals out there. But his health should always be your number one priority so always choose the healthiest options you can.
